D-Braves take early lead, never give it up against Royals
The Danville Braves scored twice in the first, second and third innings and cruised to a 6-3 victory against the Burlington Royals on Sunday in Burlington, N.C., putting the D-Braves in position to finish off a three-game sweep of the Royals today.
Randy Gress went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, Travis Adair scored and clubbed an RBI triple and Ryan Hefflinger knocked in a pair of runs with a first-inning double to lead Danville (13-7).
Matt Crim earned his third victory of the season, allowing one earned run on five hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked two. Thomas Berryhill struck out two in the ninth inning to collect his Appalachian League-leading fifth save.
Burlington (7-13) starter Tyler Sample was knocked around for six runs, four of them earned, before being chased after 2 2-3 innings. He struck out two, walked three, hurled two wild pitches and hit two batters.
