Reidsville rolls to victory over Bartlett Yancey

YANCEYVILLE, N.C. — Reidsville ran its winning streak to 38 games Friday night, disposing of Bartlett Yancey in much the same way it did many of the previous 37.
In the Mid-State 2-A Conference opener, the Rams rolled 58-0 over the outmanned Buccaneers, who have lost three straight after opening the season with two wins.
The score was similar to the 60-0, 46-0, 52-6 and 53-7 margins the Rams posted in four of their five previous games. Only Northeast Guilford, which led in the fourth quarter before losing 28-16, has given Reidsville a game.
Reidsville has now scored 40 or more points 28 times during the 38-game winning streak.
This one was over early as the Rams struck for 22 points in the first quarter. The Bucs took the opening kickoff and Bradley Taylor broke a 15-yard run straight up the middle on the first play from scrimmage. But Bartlett Yancey didn’t do much right the rest of the half. A 19-yard gain on a deflected pass from Quinton Spencer to Shaquille Barksdale provided their biggest gainer, but lost yardage on poor ball handling netted the Bucs just one yard in total offense in the first half.
The Bucs’ first possession ended in a blocked punt by Kenzel Doe, setting the Rams up five yards away from the goal. E.J. Foster scored the first of his four touchdowns on the next play.
The score was still 22-0 until Lyshod Graves hauled in a 61-yard TD pass from Lavert Butchee with 4:58 left in the half. Reidsville went on to score twice more before halftime and Graves then returned the second half kickoff 78 yards for another score.
Bartlett Yancey fumbled on the next play from scrimmage, setting up another RHS TD on the very next play. That score came with 11:09 left in the half and Reidsville didn’t score again.
Jamar Shaw had 126 yards on seven kickoff returns for Bartlett Yancey but the Bucs had only 17 yards in total offense. Reidsville had 225 rushing and 124 passing.
Reidsville is now 15-0 all time against Bartlett Yancey. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 2004.
