The 2009 regular season drew to a close Friday, and the last night of the season was jam-packed with the kind of outstanding performances that graced play all year.

Neal Thomas, Appomattox senior wide receiver, caught two passes for 62 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Kenny Scott, and stripped and returned a fumble 30 yards for another score in the Raiders’ 28-26 triumph at Dan River, which clinched at least a share of the Dogwood District title and a Region B, Division 2, playoff berth.

Liberty senior quarterback Tyler Bowyer rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns, threw for 121 yards and another touchdown. Liberty defeated Heritage 43-23.

Dan River junior quarterback Justin Gunter racked up 121 yards of total offense and scored two touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 28-26 overtime loss to Appomattox.
