RHS’s Trent falls in second round at 2-A tennis finals

Reidsville High School’s Francie Trent was looking to capture a NCHSAA 2-A tennis championship, but those aspirations came to an end at the hands of Heather Herlocker of North Stanly in Friday afternoon’s second round.
Trent’s day got off to a rocky start as the previously unbeaten Lady Rams (21-1) had to rebound won her first round match against Suzy Cedrone of North Lincoln, but won 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
In round two, Herlocker knocked off Trent, 6-4, 6-0.
During the regular season Trent was a perfect 14-0 and 10-0 in Mid-State 2-A Conference action. She capped off her regular season by winning the singles championship at the conference meet held at Reidsville’s Jaycee Park back on Oct. 16.
In her other regional matches, Trent knocked off Jordan-Matthews’ Lindsey Pyrtle, 6-3, 6-0 and North Johnston’s Sarah Wood, 6-0, 6-1.
Her lone set loss came in the first round against Cedar Ridge’s Hannah Marion. Marion won the first set, 6-4, but Trent rebounded and took games two and three 6-3, 6-0.
Reidsville has not had player competing for an individual tennis title in over 15 years.
Herlocker faced off with Laura Baker of West Lincoln in one of the two semifinal matches on Saturday. Hillary Lutz of Shelby and Hannah Lebowitz of Salisbury met in the other semifinal match.
Results of those matches were not known at press time.
