Dan River bounces back with victory
ALTAVISTA — Dan River bounced back from a stunning loss Wednesday to Martinsville with a 65-52 victory over Dogwood District foe Altavista on Friday night.
Darren White led all scorers with 21 points. The senior, who is heading to James Madison, added five steals, four rebounds and two assists. Diarra Eubanks contributed 11 points and four assists, while R.J. Myers scored 11 points and pulled down three rebounds.
“It was a big win for us. 3-0 in the district is great,” Dan River coach Jacob Gruse said. “Going into that environment is tough. I felt our guys did a good job of controlling the tempo and extremely proud of our guys with the win.”
The Wildcats improved to 10-2 and 3-0 in the Dogwood.
Altavista was led by Jawaad Douglas and Delvin Woodruff, who each scored 11 points.
Timberlake tops Westover
LYNCHBURG — Clayton Johnson scored 11 points, but Westover fell to Timberlake 60-49 Friday night. Scott Burnette added 10 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Chris Horsley added nine points and nine rebounds.

Dan River falls in overtime
RINGGOLD — Altavista handed Dan River its first district loss of the season 54-51 in overtime Friday night.
May’keah Baez had a monster night for the Wildcats (4-8, 2-1 Dogwood) with 18 points, 22 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Dijonna Morris added 12 points. Chelsea Stephens’ 20 points led Altavista.
Timberlake tops Westover
LYNCHBURG — Westover Christian fell to Timberlake Christian School 26-20 Friday night. Taylor Nunn led the Bulldogs (3-3, 0-1 VACA) with eight points and Amy Poindexter added four. Westover plays Faith Christian on Friday at home at 6 p.m.

GW loses nail biter to Halifax
SOUTH BOSTON — GW’s Terrence Grasty forced overtime with a basket at the buzzer, but Halifax took control in the extra session to win 66-63 Friday night.
Grasty finished with a team-high 19 points and Trey Wilson added 12 for the Eagles (5-3). Halifax’s Trey Cole led all scorers with 21.
Altavista escapes against Dan River
ALTAVISTA — Despite having two chances in the final eight seconds, Dan River could not convert in falling to Altavista 42-41 Friday night.
Mike Davis scored a game-high 15 points for the Wildcats (8-1) and Jordan Kelly added eight. Mike Robinson scored 11 for the Colonels.
Timberlake escapes with win over Westover
LYNCHBURG — Lucas Stephens scored 14 points to lead Westover Christian but it was not enough as Timberlake won 54-40 Friday night. Rand Stinson added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

GW valiant in loss
George Washington overcame a 21-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the game at 53 with 40 seconds left, but fell to visiting Halifax County 54-53 Friday night.
Halifax’s Ashley Leachman hit the game-winning free throw with 3.9 seconds left to seal the deal.
Khadijah Wilson and Anitra Henderson each scored 14 points for the Eagles (6-3).

Westover drops opener
LYNCHBURG — Westover Christian dropped its season opener to Timberlake 34-10 Friday night. Sydney Bowles scored five points for the Bulldogs (0-1).
