The Nighthawks won five of six singles matches and went on to the 7-2 Triad 3-A Conference victory.
MHS (4-7 overall, 3-6 in conference), got its lone win in singles action from Matt Gilley, who beat Alex Southard, 10-3 in second singles.
Northern’s Russell Riley beat Ethan Hughes, 10-7 in first singles play, while Logan Williams did the same to Morehead’s Stephen Ziglar in third singles.
Fourth singles saw Chris Bowles fall to Zach Cotterer by a 4-10 score.
Northern’s Henry Sigurreoa downed Cody Clark, 10-2 in fifth singles, while Ryan Vick claimed sixth singles, 10-0 over Scott Bishopric.

In second doubles, Riley and Cotterer beat Ziglar and Bowles, 8-1, while the Northern duo of Vick and Ryan Dickinson beat Clark and Alex Winn, 8-3.
“Northern is talented and I think a lot of the matches could have gone either way,” MHS coach Chris Moore. “We have improved from that first match with them (8-1 loss) and I feel we could have beat them. Today just wasn’t our day.”
MHS will host Reidsville this afternoon in a non-conference match.
The match will start at
4:30 p.m.
