Morehead claims county wrestling championship

The Morehead Panthers, behind seven all-county championships, won the 2009 All-County Wrestling Tournament at McMichael High School Saturday.
The Panthers finished with 41 points, followed by McMichael with 38, Rockingham County with 26 and Reidsville with 23.
The Phoenix had four county champions, Rockingham County had two and Reidsville one.
McMichael’s Brach Walker was named Outstanding Wrestler. He won the 189-pound weight class.
The all-county champions list included, Daniel Higgins (103) of Reidsville; Steven Hayes (112), Jackson Harte (119) and Michael Moore (125) all of McMichael; Paul Biggs (130), Austin Swayne (135) and Lance Mason (140) all of Morehead; Cody Roberts (145) of Rockingham County; William Walker (152) and Marty Hall (160) both of Morehead; Adam Purgason (171) of Rockingham County; Walker (189) of DMHS; Daniel Morales (215) and Ian Kirkman (275) both of Morehead.
