McMichael’s Nelson set to compete at 3-A cross country finals

Of the 18 runners competing from Rockingham County and McMichael at Saturday’s 3-A Mideast Regionals, Aaron Nelson of DMHS was the top finisher – taking home a 16th –place finish in the boys’ race.
Nelson, who was one of four McMichael runners competing, finished the race with a time of 17:01.15 – nearly 1:30 off the pace set by Eastern Alamance’s Jake Hurysz (15:39.11).
With his finish, Nelson qualified for the NCHSAA 3-A State Championship, which will be held at Tanglewood Park Saturday.
Racing begins at 10 a.m. with the 1-A boys’ race and concludes at 3:30 p.m. with the 4-A girls’ race.
In last year’s 2-A state finals, Nelson finished 21st with a time of 17:53.00.
Saturday’s 3-A boys’ race will begin at 2 p.m. in Clemmons.
