Lady Rams capture title at Mid-State Conference Meet

The Reidsville girls’ cross country team won the Mid-State 2-A Conference Meet with a 29-point effort Tuesday at Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City.
Led by Meredith Citty’s third-place finish, the Lady Rams captured just their second conference meet ever.
Reidsville was first with 29, followed by Bartlett Yancey with 51, Eastern Randolph with 56, Providence Grove with 74 and Graham and J-Matthews did not record team scores.
Citty’s third-place time was 23:42. Jennifer Brown was fourth at 23:53, Macey Land was fifth at 24:20 and Ginney Gilmore was sixth at 24:21.
Reidsville also got strong outings from Jessica Gobel (9, 29:08) and Brianna Mills (28, 36:59).
Jordan-Matthews had the first-place time of 22:17, but the name was not provided.
On the boys’ side, the Rams did not record a team score but Christopher Hall did have the winning time of 18:43.
Graham won the boys’ race with 26 points – well ahead of Eastern Randolph with 61. Providence Grove was third, followed by Jordan-Matthews in fourth.
BY and RHS did not record team scores.
Also for the Rams, Kristopher Smith was 17th at 21:09 and Kyle Smith was 20th at 22:35.
Next up for Reidsville is the 2-A Mideast Regionals, which will be held at Northwood High School on Oct. 31.
Race time is set for 11 a.m.
RHS tennis falls in first round of 2-A duals
Following a strong first-place season in the Mid-State 2-A Conference, the Reidsville tennis team entered the 2-A Dual playoffs as a No. 2 seed. However, the Lady Rams were ousted in the first round at Fairmont High School, 5-4 Tuesday afternoon.
Reidsville finished with three losses on the season, two coming in 5-4 fashions – once to Jordan-Matthews and now Fairmont.
Francie Trent, Lily Fagan and Alex Gonzalez were all straight-set winners in singles play.
Trent and Fagan recorded the only doubles win for RHS, 10-5 over Samantha Freeman and Staci Hollingsworth.
Jordan Cotter, Hanna Huffstetler and Helen Peel all lost their singles’ matches. Huffstetler lost in a third-set tiebreaker, 11-9.
In doubles play, Huffstetler and Peel lost 10-7 as did Cotter and Alex Gonzalez.
Trent and Fagan (singles) and Cotter and Gonzalez (doubles) were in action at the 2-A Mideast Regionals this weekend, but no information was available at deadline.
