Western Guilford remained atop the Triad 3-A Conference soccer standings following its visit to Eden Thursday night.
The Lady Hornets turned a close game into a runaway with three goals in a 15-minute span in the second half as they won 5-0 over Morehead.
With the win, Western remained undefeated in conference play, while MHS dropped to 10-4 overall and 3-4 in conference action.
“We played well,” MHS coach Ken Price said. “They have a good team with some high-level club players. They played hard and we played hard. They just were the better team tonight. The girls have nothing to hang their heads about.”
MHS held WGHS to just one goal in the first 30 plus minutes as Ashley Tunaman scored off an assist from Ashley Ashton at the three-minute mark. Brooke Barefoot gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with a goal 30 minutes later.
The Lady Hornets got some breathing room thanks to goals from Claire O’Keefe (49-minute) and Claire Parsons (51-minute).
Jasmine Nesi capped things off with a goal at the 64-minute mark.
Western recorded 25 shots and four corner kicks, while MHS tallied 11 shots and two corner kicks.
Recording 12 saves in goal for the home team was Jessica Moran, while Western got five saves from Natalie Stuts.
MHS will return to action on Monday with a home game against Rockingham County.
The game will start at 6 p.m.
