Lady Cougars return to action, lose at Eastern Guilford

Eastern Guilford remained undefeated in conference play and atop the 3-A Mid-State standings following Monday night’s 45-34 victory over Rockingham County.
For Rockingham County, Monday’s game was the first content in nearly two weeks.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 11-0 in conference play and 19-2 overall.
Eastern raced out to a 15-9 first-quarter lead and led 25-20 at halftime.
Rockingham County (15-6), which dropped to 7-4 in Mid-State play, was limited to 14 second-half points.
Kristin Crosby led three Eastern Guilford players in double figures with 12. Miranda Jenkins added 11 and Capricia Smalls had 10.
Mercedes Jones led the Lady Cougars with 11 points and Eastern held Lindsay Puckett in check to the tune of eight. Autumn Carter finished with six points.
Rockingham County was back in action at Morehead on Tuesday night and it hosts Northern Guilford tonight in a key conference game.
RCHS has seven wins and is in second place and Northern (6-3) is in third. However, if all teams do not finish their regular season schedules the conference tournament may be seeded based on winning percentage.
A meeting was held on Tuesday to decide the fate of the tournament and more will be known later this week.
Tonight’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Wentworth.
