George Washington product David Wilson chosen for IFAF event

Football all-star games are a dime a dozen these days. Some are regional. Some cross state lines. The International Federation of American Football Junior World Championship will bring multiple countries together.

George Washington graduate and soon-to-be Virginia Tech running back David Wilson is among the select few chosen to play for the United States team in the inaugural eight-country IFAF event.

Wilson, the Eagles standout 5-foot-11, 192-pound running back who rushed for 2,291 yards and scored 35 touchdowns last season, is practicing this week with the U.S. team in Canton, Ohio, site of next week’s tournament.

He is one of two Tech recruits on the U.S. roster, along with linebacker Tariq Edwards. There are two Virginia commits on the team as well — offensive lineman Oday Aboushi and safety Corey Lillard.

The U.S., which opens as the tournament’s No. 2 seed, will compete with top-seeded Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Sweden for the title.

The games will be played from June 27-July 5 at Canton’s Fawcett Stadium, which is located next to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and hosts the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.
