Adult Baseball League
The Adult Baseball League, sponsored by the Danville Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department, will hold open practice sessions on June 8 at the GW baseball field from 3-5 p.m. Tryouts will be June 21-22 at GW from 3-5 p.m., and all first-time players must attend both tryout sessions. The league starts play on July 13. All players and managers must be 36 years old prior to January 1, 2009. Registration cost is $100 and deadline to register is Monday, June 16.
Men’s Adult Basketball Summer League
Registration for the Danville Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department’s Men’s Adult Basketball Summer League began June 2 at the City Armory Recreation Center. Games are on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from July 9-Aug. 15. Cost is $200 per team, with a maximum of 12 teams. There will be a minimum of eight games per team. Tom Houser’s Star Volleyball Camp
Tom Houser’s Star Volleyball Camp wil lbe held at Westover Christian Academy from June 9-11. Rookie camp has been canceled. Perfect Shot Basketball Camp
Tunstall High basketball coach Eddy Lloyd has spent the last 20 years working at the University of North Carolina Basketball School. In those 20 years, Lloyd has worked in close association with York Larese, a three-time All-ACC player, and the leading free throw percentage shooter in the ACC in 1960. Lloyd will bring this shared knowledge of shooting to you this summer in a three-day camp from June 9-11 in the Tunstall High School gym. The morning session for rising third-graders to sixth-graders will run from 9-11:30 a.m. The afternoon session for seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders will run from 1-3:30 p.m. Sessions will include instruction in shooting, practice and shooting games. The entire 2½ hour session will be devoted to proper shooting form and improved shooting.Cost of the camp will be $60. Cost will include a T-shirt plus coupons for game winners. Meet the D-Braves Night
The 2008 Meet the Danville Braves Night will be held on Monday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research. Admission is $12 and the dinner is catered by Outback Steakhouse. There will be a silent auction of autographed memorabilia and proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Danville. Danville Junior Golf Tour
The Danville Junior Golf Tour is a six-week competition open to all youth ages, 6-19. Golfers will play each of the six area golf courses on consecutive Mondays, beginning June 23 at Tuscarora. Entry forms can be picked up at all area golf courses and at Ray's Golf. Awards banquet for players and family at season end. The total cost for the summer is $45, which includes a lunch at each event. Ringgold youth summer golf
The Ringgold youth summer golf league will start with a clinic June 9-10 from 5:30-7 p.m. Regular league play will start Thursday, June 15 at 7:30 a.m. and play on Thursdays for six weeks with Friday as a rain date each week. Registration cost $15, which covers green fees, trophy for each player and snacks on the last day of play. All players will play from near 100-yard markers. Inexperienced players will play captain’s choice and experienced players will play their own ball. Age limit is 6-18. Registraion forms are located in the pro shop at Ringgold Golf Course. Run for Justice
The seventh annual “Run for Justice” is at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. The 5K run and walk and 10K run begin at 5:30 p.m. and begin and end at the Community Market Place, also Danville Science Center-Pepsi Building. Major League Soccer Camp
Danville Soccer Club announces Major League Soccer Camp, which will be held June 16-20. MLS camp is the only camp program to offer coaches certified in strengths-based coaching. The Danville Braves began selling single-game tickets to their 2008 home games on May 27. Fans can purchase tickets at the Danville Braves’ office at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Memorial Park or by phone at (434) 797-3792. Online ticket sales at www.dbraves.com will go on sale at a later date. Reserved seats cost $6.50 while general admission tickets cost $4.50 for adults.
