DANVILLE — Averett rebounded from a tough weekend to demolish Peace College 3-0 on Tuesday night at the Grant Center by scores of 25-23, 25-10, 25-18. The Cougars, who were wearing pink in support of breast cancer awareness, have won four consecutive USA South Conference games.

Averett (17-8, 10-2 USA South) jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the opening set, but Peace (9-12, 4-6 USA South) stayed within striking distance. The Pacers closed Averett advantage to 24-23 before Shannon Andy’s kill gave the Cougars a win.

The Cougars dominated the second set and put Peace away late in the third set to complete the sweep.

Freshman Hillary Metheny led all Cougars with nine kills, while senior Jordan Maupin and freshman Hannah Wetherald each had six kills. Sophomore Jesse Jones paced the Cougars with 37 kills. Danville native and former Tunstall standout Marie Keatts had a team-high 10 digs.

The Cougars, who were coming off a four-game losing skid, got back to their winning ways thanks in part to their .453 hitting percentage.
