EMORY — Freshman Tuukka Myyra scored two goals as Averett defeated Emory & Henry College 5-1 on Wednesday night.
Myyra scored the first of his two goals to put Averett ahead 1-0 only 13 minutes in when he found the net off a Kyle Barrow pass. Freshman Leslie Pappoe scored what turned out to be the game-winner about 14 minutes later off a pass from Samuli Markkanen.
Emory & Henry (2-8) cut their deficit in half on a Josh Stamey goal, but it was the Wasps’ only score of the night.
Pappoe assisted Levi Earl for a goal to push Averett’s lead back to two, and Myyra added his second goal on a pass from William Sehlin.
Jonathan Gustafsson scored an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute to cap the Cougars’ scoring.
Nate Barker had three saves in goal for Averett.
Averett (5-2-1) opens its conference schedule at noon Saturday at Shenandoah University.
