Allen, Miller named Assistant Athletics Directors at Averett
DANVILLE — Averett University Director of Athletics Sam Ferguson is pleased to announce that coaches Danny Miller and Jimmy Allen have taken on administrative duties in the athletics department. Miller, Averett’s volleyball coach, has been named the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Operations. Allen, the men’s basketball coach, will also serve as the Assistant Athletics Director for Community Outreach.
“I am pleased that Danny and Jimmy have agreed to accept these new roles in our department,“ Ferguson said. “Danny has been a part of this department for more than 20 years and has proven to be a top-notch coach and administrator. I have counted on him in a variety of ways over the last three years and he is always eager to assist the department in any way.“
Jimmy has also performed exceptionally as our basketball coach, but he has also made our men’s basketball team as active as ever in our community. That is an important component in the development of our student-athletes and I’m happy he has agreed to coordinate that experience for the entire department. I’m looking forward to working more closely with the two of them in their new roles.“
Miller, who had been serving as the Director of Compliance, is in his 15th season as Averett’s volleyball coach. He has guided Averett o seven conference tournament titles, nine regular season crowns and four NCAA appearances.
“I’m really honored to receive this opportunity,“ Miller said. “I’ll continue to serve the university to the best of my ability and look forward to helping the athletic department any way possible.“
Allen, who is entering his sixth season at Averett, has coached Averett to three consecutive USA South Conference Tournament championships and three NCAA tournaments. Last season, the Cougars advanced to the second round for the first time in school history.
“I am very excited and look forward to helping Averett and our athletic department continue to make a positive impact in our community,“ Allen said.
