Democrats rallied behind gubernatorial candidate state Sen. Creigh Deeds at the Pittsylvania County Democratic Committee annual fundraiser Saturday night in Chatham.The local Democrats also honored keynote speaker and Rep. Tom Perriello, D-5th District, with a surprise birthday party, but Perriello kept the focus on the governor’s race and the economy.

RICHMOND — The uranium-mining study has begun. The Virginia Coal and Energy Commission’s Uranium Mining Subcommittee, tasked with overseeing a study to determine whether uranium can be mined and milled safely in the commonwealth, approved a revised final draft of the study Thursday.

Congressman Virgil Goode is requesting a recount of votes in the 5th District Congressional race hours after the State Board of Elections announced that Democratic newcomer Tom Perriello officially won.

The race for the 5th District congressional seat was too close to call Tuesday night.

Goode edges Perriello by $15,000 in final campaign contributions.
