Supporting Coach Smart
In response to the letter written by Anthony Scales, better known by Eden residents and Morehead football fans as Tyrone Scales, I would like to give a different view of the current program and its staff.
Coach Jason Smart did successfully turn the McMichael team around during his tenure. The DMHS team made it into the playoffs the past two years that Coach (Jason) Smart was at McMichael. One of those years, they advanced further in the playoffs than the Morehead team. His love and dedication to Morehead has continued since his graduation, and I have no doubt that he will be a success.
All teams go through rebuilding years, and Morehead is no exception. The Class of 2007 graduated 11 seniors from the football team and the Class of 2008 had six players quit under Coach Mickey Crouch and graduated 16 seniors. A loss of such magnitude makes a severe impact on a team.
Mr. Scales talks about the successes of our former coach, Mickey Crouch. As a parent of a football player during Coach Crouch’s term, I can assure you that Mr. Scales was not happy with Coach Crouch either and voiced his displeasure.
We need to stand strong and united for the students of Morehead High School and the football team. Your presence at the football games and support of the booster club will encourage our children and rejuvenate the team’s faith in our community.
