Support county schools
Editor’s note: This letter will be published online only. No letters in reference to Tuesday’s primary will be published in Tuesday’s papers.
One penny on every four dollars—one cent—this is the only cost it will take to immediately benefit the children of Eden, Reidsville and Stoneville by building, renovating and updating their schools. In the long run, it will benefit thousands more of our school children and other citizens.
Our county is in economic distress, and business owners looking at Rockingham County for potential job sites take the quality and capability of our school infrastructure into account when making their decisions about where to locate. Voting yes for the one-quarter sales tax increase Tuesday will help attract employers as well as to better prepare our children for jobs in the 21st century.
This tiny sales tax would bring in an additional $1,670,000 in much needed school funds. It amounts to 25 cents for every $100 spent, and will not be charged on unprepared food (groceries), prescriptions or gasoline. Best of all, it is a point of purchase sales tax, which means that what is collected stays here in our county to benefit our kids.
Please support the Rockingham County schools Tuesday.
