Angry over ‘speed bump’

What a pleasant surprise it was to come home from work today to find they are paving Knowles Road. We who live on Knowles Road have had to deal with uneven pavement from the installation of natural gas lines for way to long. How utterly disappointing to see that the homes with paved driveways are considered a step above the taxpaying citizens of Rockingham County who don’t have paved driveways.
On all the paved driveways the asphalt was planed down level. For those of us taxpaying citizens of Rockingham County who don’t have paved driveways it means what amounts to a 5-inch speed bump to go over to get out onto Knowles Road. How disappointing it was to feel like a lesser entity, even though we pay the same county taxes in Rockingham County as our paved driveway neighbors. In the case of my husband and myself, we’ve only lived on Knowles Road a few short years and have made getting our yard in shape and more eye appealing for the neighborhood more of a priority than paving our driveway.
Shame on Rockingham County for making hardworking taxpaying citizens feel like we mean less than others. I have to wonder what maneuvering over that county-imposed speed bump at the end of my driveway is going to be like on mine or my husbands’ motorcycles. Again, shame on Rockingham County for not treating all of its taxpaying citizens equally.
