Two good candidates
To the editor:
I have worked in the Danville Sheriff’s Office for 29 years. It has been my honor to know and work with such fine men as Deputy J. Wayne Booth and Lt. Thelbert Childress.
Citizens of Danville, you deserve to know the facts about the Danville Sheriff’s Office. The Danville sheriff is responsible for operating the jail, service of civil process and the security of our courts. Our sheriff is not responsible for criminal arrests. The Danville Police Department is our primary law enforcement agency. With crime on the increase in our city, we need police officers like Mike Mondul, who “vigorously pursues criminals,” to remain in our police department.
Deputy Booth and Lt. Childress have more than 50 years combined service in the Danville Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Booth’s devotion and experience speak volumes; he currently works in the control room of the jail. Lt. Childress has numerous certificates and degrees, and he is currently the assistant jail administrator.
Deputy Booth’s and Lt. Childress’ decisions to run for sheriff were not an afterthought. These two dedicated and loyal officers were merely waiting for our current sheriff to decide whether or not he was going to run again.
I urge everyone to come out and vote Nov. 3. Let’s elect our new sheriff from within our sheriff’s office! They have earned our support and our community deserves a sheriff of their caliber.
