Petitioning against health care bill

To the editor:

I have been writing Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner and Rep. Tom Perriello since August asking one question: “How many Virginia jobs will be lost and businesses closed because of the additional taxes and penalties found in the current health care legislation?”

To date, I have not had a response from any of them that addressed this question. So, on Dec. 14, I decided to see how many of my fellow Virginians felt as I do that — our representatives should not support this legislation. I wrote a petition that simply said, “We the undersigned are citizens and voters of the Commonwealth of Virginia. As citizens of the Commonwealth we urge you to drop your support for the current health care legislation that is now in the Senate and House of Representatives. There are many reasons to be opposed to this legislation. Suffice to say it is simply the wrong legislation at the wrong cost at the wrong time for the Commonwealth and the nation.”

On Dec. 15, I delivered this signed petition to Sen. Webb’s and Rep. Perriello’s Danville offices and Sen. Warner’s Roanoke office with 181 signatures. In just 24 hours, 181 of my fellow Virginians asked them to stop. We shall see if they listened. As an aside, an aid in Sen. Warner’s office asked me if I was representing some “group.” After a moment’s thought I said yes — and proudly answered “Virginians.”

While you’re asking them to predict something in the future that nobody knows about, how about asking them for the next lottery numbers?

The only jobs they are concerned with is their own. Blusy is correct to some extent. They want control. They want to keep us rich enough to support them through our taxes, but poor enough to need them to “help” us. I know I am taxed enough already!

The democrats aren’t concerned about jobs lost. Their only concern is whether they can have complete control over every part of our lives. Its part of their grand scheme to keep us all poor.

Chris, Thank you for your actions.  I hope they will not fall upon eyes that are blind to what constituents want in favor of what some in government want.
