Perriello out of sync with district

To the editor:

On Nov. 7, Congressman Tom Perriello voted in favor of the largest single piece of legislation this country has ever seen. This is old news, albeit it exemplary of Mr. Perriello’s utopian thinking. This is the Fifth District of Virginia, not California.

This bill contained close to 2,000 pages of convoluted text left to the discretion of the powers that be to define. The size alone is as ludicrous as the bill itself. The math that was used to determine cost can be more accurately defined as magic, smoke and mirrors.

Congressman Perriello, in an article in the newspaper, stated he would like to have seen interstate competition and increased portability included in the bill, along with increased tort and malpractice reform. With all due respect to Mr. Perriello, these three things alone would have far more reaching and positive results. Everything written in the bill with no positive reference to these three items is unnecessary and in all likelihood does not pertain to health care so much as big intrusive government.

We have no desire to replicate the financial condition — nor the fiscal practice — of California.

raven - don’t be so naive.  insurance companies do not wreck havoc on people’s lives?  of course they do….and of course getting sick can….that’s why we HAVE insurance.  and when the giant insurance industry declines payment or authorizations for medical procedures….IT WRECKS HAVOC on people’s lives.  wake up…hopefully you or your family will never have a catastrophic illness…god help you if you do…because the insurance industry doesn’t do much!

Sorry Oops…BIG insurance companies do NOT wreak havoc on our lives, causing BIG medical bills, financial ruin, bankruptcy and more pain. Getting SICK can…or smoking or overeating or abusing alcohol and drugs or driving like a maniac or doing it with strangers. H.R. 3962 has nothing to do with healthcare and everything to do with growing government control. Perriello knows it and voted for it anyway.

So are you in favor of the present broken healthcare system of BIG insurance companies wrecking havoc on our lives, causing BIG medical bills, financial ruin, bankruptcy and more pain?
About the only TRUTH in your letter is this is the Fifth District of Virginia, not California. And you omitted the numerous public meetings and hearings held by our Tom all over the District. Something someone like Goode would never have done.
