March 20: My information, quick action and send them home

How did they get my info?
To the editor:
Has America become a nation of grasping beggars?
I have been donating to several organizations for several years now, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the March of Dimes, the Danville Life Saving Crew, etc.
Now I am being deluged by letters asking for help and even calls on the telephone. This is getting to be a problem for me and my family. How did so many of the organizations get my address and phone number? Do these organizations pass people’s addresses around?
Here I am, almost 82 years old and living on a senior’s pension - and a small one, at that - being smothered with calls and letters for help. There is not much I can do about it.
But it is about time the United States awakens from its slumber of the past few years and realizes that the rich and poor need one another. If anyone can’t understand that is what keeps a country happy and strong, there must be something wrong with the system.
NAFTA needs to go, or we must make trade more even, for a start. Who will make this happen? Democrats or Republicans? Only time will tell. Folks, it’s all up to you.
Vote with your heart, not with your pocketbook.

Quick, courteous action
To the editor:
I would like to express my appreciation to all the people at Danville Regional Medical Center who came to my rescue on March 11.
My wife and I were coming out of the pain clinic, where she was being treated for back pain, when something happened to me. I lost consciousness and I didn’t have a pulse. People came from everywhere in the hospital and not only helped me, but my wife, also. I was admitted to the hospital and people were so kind and helpful to my family.
Thanks to all of you kind and wonderful people.
CURTIS COOK, Danville
Just send them all back home
To the editor:
Why are so many legislators in favor of immigration! Why don’t they do a study on the percentage of crime that is currently done by Mexicans in general, and foreigners in particular? How many of those criminals are absorbing our welfare funds?
They are not Americans. Ship all of them home now. Some of us red-blooded Americans don’t want them here. I don’t even want to see one walking down the street.
