For Childress

To the editor:

I attended the forum Tuesday evening at American Legion Post 325 for the three individuals running for Danville Sheriff and came away with unanswered questions. Of the three candidates, one seems to have been at the department for many years and is still just a deputy. What’s up with that? Is there a reason this candidate has not moved up the ladder?

Another candidate did a lot a fast talking but, seems to think that he can change everything because of his many years in the police department. I think there is a conflict of interest here. Having close friends in the police department does not qualify anyone to become sheriff, which has a completely different mission.

The last candidate, T.L. Childress seems to be the best qualified. He has been at the department for more than 20 years and has worked his way up the ranks and seems to know the complete details of how the department works. I know that Lt. Childress is instrumental in the everyday operations and the reason the sheriffs department received its certification. He knows the Danville Sheriffs Office inside and out but he can not make changes until he is in charge! Give him a chance Election Day. He really is the most qualified and cares very much for the future of this department.
