For Booth
To the editor:
I continue to read and hear comments stressing Danville Sheriff’s Office candidates Mike Mondul and Thelbert Childress are more qualified than J. Wayne Booth because they have college degrees. I suppose we are to ignore all of those throughout the history of our country who did not have a college degree: our first president, George Washington, our 33rd, Harry S. Truman, and seven other presidents in between. Also, CEOs Bill Gates of Microsoft and Michael Dell of Dell Computers did not have college degrees. They and many like them have been successful because they had common sense intelligence and a sense of caring for people of our communities and our country or a vision in their fields.
I have known J. Wayne Booth for a number of years. He is a fine man, levelheaded and intelligent. His 31 years of experience with the sheriff’s department qualifies him for sheriff because he understands what has worked in the past, what has not and what needs to be improved.
He has a vision for the sheriff’s department and our community that includes implementing programs that will benefit the children of our community, ensuring them a safer environment and a brighter future as citizens and future leaders of Danville.
If you are concerned for the future of your children and our community, I encourage you to vote for J. Wayne Booth for Danville City Sheriff on Nov. 3 as I plan to do.
