To the editor:

Many thanks to all who helped make our second Danville Area CROP Hunger Walk a big success! We are thrilled that $10,6674 was raised to benefit hungry people in Danville and around the world. More than 15 churches and community organizations participated, and we had more than 100 more walkers than last year; 25 percent of the proceeds will go to God’s Storehouse, and the remainder will benefit hunger projects in developing countries.

Our planning team would like to express appreciation to our corporate sponsors for their generous support: Cutright Dentistry; Family Eyecare Center; M&M Furniture; Norris Funeral Services Inc.; Pepsi Cola Co.; Claudette Robertson, attorney at law; Danville Honda; Majestic Cleaners; Smith-Davis Tire; Wilson Lawn and Garden; Mike’s Audio Performance; Danville Radiator Works; URW Federal Credit Union; Wilkins and Company; and Amy Cook, who designed our letterhead.

We appreciate the support of the American Red Cross, the Danville Police Department and the Five Forks Neighborhood Association. Thanks to West Main Baptist Church for hosting our walk on their beautiful lawn.

Special thanks to the Kuumba Dance Group (Reginald, Patricia, Korey and Shelita Hall) for helping us have a fun and festive finale to our walk!

Our planning team members: Gary and Lin Benefield, Tony Ayala, Tobias and Becky Lutz, Sheri and Benton Tuck, Marie-Louise Crane, Betsy Willson Messer, Becky Wales and Beth Ranson worked for many months to make our walk possible. Thank you.

We are already looking ahead to next year’s walk as we seek to benefit those who are struggling with hunger. We hope all will join us.
