These attacks will backfire

Leftist politics has reached a new low! Personal attacks on the Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, are extremely vicious and typical of the MoveOn.org-supported leftist blogs, Democrats and their allies in the mainstream news media — and now Marxist-inspired protesters.
These nasty little protesters had the Marxist hammer and sickle symbol on their banners. They are obviously well organized and funded by radical leftist anarchists who only wish to destroy our republic and implement a socialist/Marxist government.
Interestingly, the major news media are participating in the vicious attacks on Sarah Palin. Yet, they continue to allow “Obamato” get away with his long-term relationship with Resko, the gangster. They continue to let him continue his long-term friendship with domestic terrorist William Ayers, who continues to be a Marxist-style radical.
Obama has a 20-year relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the longtime black liberation theologist who preaches hatred toward all white people.
Democratic politicians never have to say I’m sorry.
Obama has a few months more experience than Palin, while she has executive experience running a state with a $1 billion budget, while he was a “community organizer” in the sleezy town of Chicago.
The huge, vicious attacks against Sarah Palin will backfire, I think, and propel McCain and Palin to the White House.

Palin was a great veep choice
To the editor:
Last Friday, John McCain surprised the mainstream news media by naming Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate. The news media knew very little about her, but they immediately went into a feeding frenzy — like a bunch of sharks — trying to dig up any dirt they could find. They have even reported that her husband had a DWI 20 years ago.
They have said that she lacks experience, but when Gov. Timothy M. Kaine was mentioned as a vice presidential candidate for Barack Obama, it wasn’t questioned — even though he and Sarah Palin were both elected as governors at the same time and Palin, like Kaine, was previously a city council member and mayor of a city. Palin didn’t have the advantage, like Kaine, of a father-in-law who was a former governor to grease the path to the governorship. She had to make it on her own. The fact of the matter is that Sarah Palin has more executive experience than either Obama or Joe Biden.
From what I have heard, Sarah Palin is a great selection as a candidate. In her short career in government, she has been a whistle blower by reporting corruption, she has been a cost cutter as governor by cutting pork from the budget, she canceled the bridge to nowhere earmark that Sen. Ted Stevens, a Republican, put into the federal budget for Alaska because, she said, if Alaska needed a bridge, it would pay for it.
I only hope the people in this country will ignore what the news media is doing and listen to what Sarah Palin has to say about what she wants to do for the country. Listen to her and make up your own mind. This is a fine and decent woman whose only objective is to work to try and make this country even better than it is today. I hope that many of you feel like me and are tired of the news media in this country trying to ruin the lives of people simply because they disagree with a person’s beliefs and ideologies.

Veterans unite behind Goode
To the editor:
Veterans of World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm and the present conflict — it is now time to show your appreciation for all the things U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode, R-5th, has done and is still doing on behalf of the veterans of the 5th District of Virginia. Consider supporting him and voting for him in November. Let us unite and return him again to Congress.

Why couldn’t I adopt one?
To the editor:
A few years ago, I tried to adopt a pet from the Danville Area Humane Society. I was told that I couldn’t because I had another pet.
Am I the only one who read Paulette Dean’s “Critter Corner” column in Sunday’s paper? So, how can these people adopt four and five animals and I can’t even adopt one? Anyone who wants a pet, go to the county pound. They are more than willing to adopt an animal out to a good home rather than euthanize it.

Well Sawdust - I will concede your point that Chicago is known for corrupt politics but you are off-base with there being no reason to move from Hawaii to Chicago unless you wanted to get into corrupt politics. There were a lot of us local Hawaiian kids who left paradise to go to mainland schools, left because the job market was tight, and/or because we had “island fever” and just wanted to see what the rest of the country had to offer. Some of us even ended up in Danville, and last time I checked with my doctor, he thought I was totally sane. This is the last entry I’m writing (or READING) on this subject. Aloha!
Oldgraymare; Since you obviously don’t know anything about Chicago politics, let someone born and raised in Illinois clue you in. Chicago has always been known for two things- wind and corrupt politics. It is no different today. There is no reason to move from Hawaii to Chicago, at least for a sane person, unless one intends to get involved in corrupt politics. Let me assure you, there is nothing to compare with the sleaze of Chicago politics. There used to be a close competitor-the state politics of Alaska- but Mrs. Palin took care of that. Here’s hoping she can do the same in Washington.
As a 28 year veteran of the Army and with over 20 years of civil service with the DoD, I can tell you that it is time for a change NOW! I applaud Tom Periello’s energy, and willingness to “think outside the box” to help get some of our nations worst problems solved. Its going to be a long, long road and its pretty obvious to me that “business as usual” isn’t going to cut it this time! I urge all veterans and active duty/reservists to support this bright, articulate young man and then HELP him work on our issues.
Mr .Gray - you are waaay out of line here…..the media has the right to say whatever it likes - about anyone at all, as long as they are truthful about it. This was the Republicans’ week for getting bashed - the Dems had their week too. The “attacks” on Sarah Palin had more to do with her lack of national experience (“I haven’t focused much on the Iraq war”) and the fact that her speech was mostly comprised of glib one-liners intended to whip the crowd into a frenzy. I didn’t hear one concrete issue discussed. And its apparent that Barack Obama’s supposed links to Resko and Ayers were already vetted and found to be nothing. Trust me - if the media had found out anything, it would be ALL OVER the news.
Why not use some of your energy for good, instead of just spewing hate.
