Is it constitutional?
To all politicians, i.e., public servants, primarily U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Jim Webb and Rep. Tom Perriello regarding those who you represent, the people: When a citizen corresponds with you or your office, a response would be appreciated. That response should not be a standard letter.
Writer: Community needs Centra
I’ve been reading about the new administrator from LifePoint brought in to run Danville Regional Medical Center. It is shocking to see his announcement that he will fight to keep Centra Health from getting a permit to locate in Danville.

U.S. needs to find its way back to God
It seems that every politician these days has the answer for creating jobs. It makes good politics; however, I have to question where and how they are going to accomplish this great task under present conditions. You see, my contention is that God has had his hand on this nation from its inception. If you recall, we were founded on and by men that were dedicated to God as attested to by their own words. Our Constitution will attest to this if men would only read it as it is written and stop trying to fit it to their desires.
System not broken
My parents allways told me that when there is a knock on the door at 2 a.m., don’t open the door — nothing good can happen. Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner and Rep. Tom Perriello, I am against health care reform because no useful legislation can possibly be presented in 2,000+ pages.

Mining study only part of picture
Every citizen in the Commonwealth of Virginia, including Pittsylvania County, deserves all the facts of all studies, before any type of operation concerning uranium mining and milling of uranium is undertaken. All studies done by credible firms should be considered and included in the final outcome. It is your duty and that of our representatives to ensure this is done
Let Centra come
I hope the people of Danville will be in favor of improving our health care and express the desire for Centra to open its emergency medical center as quickly as possible LifePoint’s only desire is to make a profit in Danville

Fight to bring Centra to Danville
Our leaders must rally to fight this reprehensible move by LifePoint and fight to bring Centra here so that people will have a choice
What do they fear?
Why fight against Centra Health of Lynchburg coming to Danville if DRMC offers quality patient care and safety. What is DRMC afraid of?
Profit before patients
All of these problems were created by Dr. Bob Ashby and his committee that voted to sell our community hospital which the residents of Danville had paid for to a for-profit company. LifePoint would rather make a profit before giving the residents of Danville the service they deserve

Setting the mining record straight
The March 11 uranium mining and milling symposium in Richmond presented information regarding some of the challenges that industry, regulators and citizens face regarding the potential lifting of the moratorium in Virginia. The forum offered an opportunity for elected officials, interested citizens and the uranium mining (and milling) industry to broaden their knowledge regarding the issue. Each panelist brought decades of education and experience regarding uranium mining, milling, resulting wastes and their effects on human health. Symposium sponsors will have a video of the symposium available soon. Hopefully, those of you who did not attend the symposium will take the opportunity to view it online
A matter of priorities
Can you imagine not being able to feed your children, buy them a warm coat or having to tell them Santa Claus didn’t come this year because we moved

Writer: Fight the DRMC monopoly
After reading a recent letter to the editor about Danville Regional Medical Center, I feel compelled to write also. I’ve observed the hospital both as the member of two rescue squads and a resident of this area. The author is quite correct that the secret sale of the hospital was one of the worst disasters to befall this community, at least since the collapse of Dan River Industries. Since the sale, LifePoint has appeared to be engaged in a studied effort to destroy the full-service facility which it took over and turn it into a glorified first aid station for which it can charge maximum fees for minimal service
St. Jude’s fundraiser
Danville has always come forward when people need help. Please show your support and generosity again 7 p.m. March 20 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles on U.S. 58 east of Danville. The River City chapter of the Southern Cruisers Riding Club will hold its second annual Womanless Beauty Pageant to raise money for St Jude’s Research Hospital

Clean jobs will save our economy
I urge Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner to support clean energy legislation this spring because with our agriculture and manufactoring history we can revive
our economy and create jobs with a healthy, long lasting environment
Unfair to Israel
When Vice President Joe Biden was chastising Israel last week for building 3,000 new units in East Jerusalem as an obstacle to “peace,” the irony of that comment really struck home with me as these kinds of comments so often do

Socialized medicine controls people
Socialized medicine has less to do with caring for people than it does controlling them
Personal honor
Help elect Robert Hurt and get the type of honest representation that we’ve not enjoyed in the Fifth District since Jan. 19, 2009

Insurance woes at the DRMC ER
In the continuing saga of the Danville Regional Medical Center fiasco, get a load of this
Boot Obama
These Democrats, unless they are fools, should profit from the experience of the Republicans who lost control of Congress after they indulged President George W. Bush in his considerable overreach of his constitutional prerogatives.
It is time for Obama to go!
A green future
With the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) even more funding will be available for programs like RESNET. Clean energy is the future, and I hope that Sens. Jim Webb and Mark Warner will see this and pass the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) in the upcoming spring!

Danville needs a vision for its future
As I read the letters to the editor and miscellaneous articles about what is wrong with Danville, I have yet to have read one that hits on the complete truth
What’s he thinking?
Why in the world would DRMC’s new CEO oppose Centra’s proposal to build a new medical facility here? Could it be that he thinks this proposed facility might cut into his ER profit margin?

Obesity, health should concern all
The commentary in the Register & Bee on Feb. 28 about the overall health of residents in this area provided valuable, yet shocking information about obesity and lack of attention to diet and exercise in general of the people in our community

Writer: DRMC its own worst enemy
We desperately need additional services of a free-standing emergency room-ambulatory surgery center-imaging center in Danville
Come together
Look at the headlines: Violence and unemployment are up, cultural and leisure activities are down. Help our adults and we will see a change in our city. Lose the separate-but-equal mentality and embrace equality for all

Live or die, government doesn’t care
Recently I experienced the change that many people believed in and voted for. The morning news reports said that Congress is planning to cut Medicare payments to doctors by another 21.2 percent. What’s bad now will become even worse. Doctors might hang out a new shingle reading, “If you are over 65, do not apply.”
Battling Alzheimer’s
Today there are 5.3 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease and I am one of the nation’s 10 million Alzheimer caregivers
Sexual orientation
Regarding the letter to the editor about Executive Order No. 6, the author of said letter either cannot read or intentionally misrepresented what the subject document says. Nowhere in the order does language exist regarding sexual orientation or allowing discrimination based on sexual orientation

Liberals can’t handle facts, logic
Government solving our inequalities is a con game that has been both a comedy and a tragedy, played on earth’s inhabitants for centuries. The only thing that
can solve these inequalities is the individual, with the government getting out of our way
Support jobs bill
At other desperate times in the history of the U.S., our government has instituted public jobs programs as part of the solution to extreme unemployment. Those programs put people back to work, restored dignity and self-esteem, provided real and necessary income and created some of our most lasting and
noteworthy public assets. The world as we know it is changing. Let us change with it and discover even greater sources and resources to prosper
