Businesses hate it when their employees use company computers, telephones, fax machines, copiers and other valuable office equipment for personal use. Some companies have policies, and some of those policies are stricter than others.

But the bottom line is that companies want their office equipment used for its intended purpose.

That’s why U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode has to be frustrated that his Danville office’s fax number was listed in a brochure for the 2003 Toronto InsideOut gay and lesbian film festival. The fax number was a contact for the gay movie “Eden’s Curve,” that was filmed here in Danville.

“It wasn’t authorized by me and I think it’s wrong whoever did it,” Goode told The Daily Progress of Charlottesville. “It was absolutely improper.”

In response, Goode told The Daily Progress he will meet with members of his Danville congressional office to try to determine who might have been responsible for letting the gay and lesbian film festival have the office fax number, and to determine if taxpayer money was spent to promote “Eden’s Curve.”

Goode, this newspaper and other people and organizations in the Dan River Region were linked to “Eden’s Curve” when it was recently revealed that they had all been thanked in the gay movie’s closing credits.

That credit was most harmful to Goode, a social conservative who has voted against gay and lesbian issues in the past. Goode denied any involvement in the making of “Eden’s Curve.”

This latest revelation — coming just days before the election — certainly doesn’t link Goode to “Eden’s Curve.”

But it does mean that someone at that gay and lesbian film festival thought that faxes concerning “Eden’s Curve” should be sent to a number that turned out to be in Goode’s congressional office here in Danville.

The best thing Goode could do at this point is to follow through with what he’s already said he would do: Try to learn how his office fax number was used by the InsideOut gay and lesbian film festival, and determine if federal funds were used to promote the movie. That will likely lead to a review of computer files and access, plus fax line use.

To fully put this issue behind him, though, Goode should tell the public what he will tell his office and he needs to share with the public the results of his own internal review of the matter.

We call on Goode to put everything he finds out about “Eden’s Curve” and his office’s fax number before the public. That’s the best way to put the whole thing behind him.

Senator Obama was born in Hawaii.  Are you, Vindicator, an American Indian?  If not, perhaps you should go back to where your family came from.  Perhaps, all of us should do that give this land back to the “real Americans,“ the native Americans.

Of course, if Sarah Palin had her way, she would send all of those Alaskan “Eskimos” back to where they came from so she could make Alaska a “real Alaska” that is, a white Alaska.

Vindicator.  Your comments prove more and more what a sad racist you are.  It is a new era; there are no longer white Americans and black Americans but just AMERICANS. Those who can’t accept that are likely over 40 and need to find a “whiter” place to go and live - like Finland.  Peace.

You do your man/one vote part. I’m doing the same to send Barack Hussein Obama back to Kenya, where he was born.

If Goode were a Democrat, the Republicans would have already labeled him as “gay” because of his association with the gay film.  If Senator Obama can be “slammed” for his serving on education boards with William Ayers, Goode needs to be “slammed” for allowing his government fax machine to be used by the gay community.

Frankly, I really don’t care what Congressman Goode’s sexual preferences are, but it does concern me that he is so vocal against many of the tax-payers of our 5th District.  When he speaks out against gays and immigrants, he is speaking out against a large number of people who live and work here and pay HIS salary.

The gay festival thing is no big deal, but “I’ll betcha” if Sarah Palin were running against him, he would already be labeled.  I hope he gets booted from his seat come election day; I’ll do my one-man/one-vote part to help send him back to Franklin county.  Peace.

“you don’t use public money for private gain - period”

And you support Barack Hussein Obama? Talk about hypocrites.

Goode consistently doesn’t know what is going on in his office and campaign. He “didn’t know” about this use of his fax number. He “didn’t know” that he was scheduled for a televised campaign for months. He “didn’t know” that he was accepting bribes. Goode spends so much time shirking responsibility. It is becoming offensive to his constituents.

Goode is again coming in with “too little too late”.  He should have addressed this issue to his constituents as soon as it was brought to light.  He should have FIRED Mr. Duncan AND the office manager, not let Mr. Duncan resign.  He should have acknowledged that everything that happens in that office is his ultimate responsibility, that he is ashamed and embarrassed and that it will be fixed and that it will not happen again.  That’s how a true leader leads.  His mealy-mouthed “denial of knowledge” doesn’t wash with me.  I don’t care if the movie was a porn film or a Disney film - you don’t use public money for private gain - period.

As I previously stated, the problem was handled with the resignation of his longtime press secretary.

“Nothing happens in Virgil Goode’s office without his permission.“  That was Goode’s longtime press secretary in response to questions about this fax connection…someone is lying down there, and this is the second election in a row that Goode has claimed voters should give him a pass b/c he doesn’t know what is going on in his office.

Remember when MZM officials were put in jail for bribing several Congressmen, including Goode.  His excuse then was that he didn’t realize all the huge donations to his campaign were meant as bribes.  And as with this time, he swore their was no connection between the sweatheart earmark he provided and the stuff he knew nothing about…it’s time for a change.

No smoking gun here. I believe the problem was handled with Linwood Duncan’s resignation. He was the only known link to the movie, the Producer, and the North Theater at this time.

Maybe we have another foot- pattin Republican here. Hard to tell about them some times.
