Businesses hate it when their employees use company computers, telephones, fax machines, copiers and other valuable office equipment for personal use. Some companies have policies, and some of those policies are stricter than others.
But the bottom line is that companies want their office equipment used for its intended purpose.
That’s why U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode has to be frustrated that his Danville office’s fax number was listed in a brochure for the 2003 Toronto InsideOut gay and lesbian film festival. The fax number was a contact for the gay movie “Eden’s Curve,” that was filmed here in Danville.
“It wasn’t authorized by me and I think it’s wrong whoever did it,” Goode told The Daily Progress of Charlottesville. “It was absolutely improper.”
In response, Goode told The Daily Progress he will meet with members of his Danville congressional office to try to determine who might have been responsible for letting the gay and lesbian film festival have the office fax number, and to determine if taxpayer money was spent to promote “Eden’s Curve.”
Goode, this newspaper and other people and organizations in the Dan River Region were linked to “Eden’s Curve” when it was recently revealed that they had all been thanked in the gay movie’s closing credits.
That credit was most harmful to Goode, a social conservative who has voted against gay and lesbian issues in the past. Goode denied any involvement in the making of “Eden’s Curve.”
This latest revelation — coming just days before the election — certainly doesn’t link Goode to “Eden’s Curve.”
But it does mean that someone at that gay and lesbian film festival thought that faxes concerning “Eden’s Curve” should be sent to a number that turned out to be in Goode’s congressional office here in Danville.
The best thing Goode could do at this point is to follow through with what he’s already said he would do: Try to learn how his office fax number was used by the InsideOut gay and lesbian film festival, and determine if federal funds were used to promote the movie. That will likely lead to a review of computer files and access, plus fax line use.
To fully put this issue behind him, though, Goode should tell the public what he will tell his office and he needs to share with the public the results of his own internal review of the matter.
We call on Goode to put everything he finds out about “Eden’s Curve” and his office’s fax number before the public. That’s the best way to put the whole thing behind him.

Vindacator, my friend. “Luther” is a “Christian” name; “Hussein” is an “Arabic” name. The Christian racists in this nation use the “Hussein” to indicate “he is not like us” (i.e., white).
The “Obama is not an American” theory has been disproven over and over, but Fox non-News and Rush (speaking of someone who has OD’d of too much pot and acid - I mean Oxicontin; what kind of name is Rush, anyway? Does it have a hidden meaning, like what he got when he was “toked” out?) have spread lies that, had Senator Obama not been a public figure, would fall into the category of libelous.
Your comment that Russia, China, North Korea, Sweden, Finland and France is so glib. It’s the “they’re all alike” attitude that has likely caused the GOP to breath its last gasp for a number of years; at least they have until they wake up and realize that in 20 years or so Hispanics will be the largest group of Americans and that we are all Americans, a nation of immigrants. While members of the GOP continue with the attitude they have about “they’re all alike,“ the Democratic party will take the lead and put this nation back to its former brilliant self (before that young Bush boy got into office).
And my friend, Vindicator’s little toady, jimmy. Chicago is one of the safest cities in the country. I will be traveling there over Thanksgiving to visit my daughter who is in graduate school at the Univ. of Chicago. Your perception of Chicago is far from reality. I have visited that city many times and have found it to be safe and very progressive. When was the last time you were there (or have you ever been there)?
Regardless, the fact remains that Senator Obama is very likely going to be our next President. Deal with it. Peace.
Vindicator you have once again made a great case. I just wish that the R&B;would do a real investigation of Perriello and Obama. Then again yellow journalism via Arkin seems to be the norm. I cannot figure out why if most all of the black folk vote for Obama and when some whites do not want to vote for him that it is because of racism. I will not vote for Barrock H. Obama because he has no experience and I loved that great job he did in Chicago hanging out with terrorists and racists. Chicago is so much safer than it was before him. I would really hate to let the rest of the USA end up like Chicago. If that is Obamas idea of a Socialist utopia Marx would even be rolling in his grave. Of course when Obama’s people went after Joe the Plumber that was more like Stalinism. The crying shame ofthe matter is that the Equirer gets more truthful stories than the associated press. When would we have found out about Edwards? The AP sat on that one. What else are they sitting on? Free press?
JacksonPollock. The moderators are working overtime tonight. My last post to you didn’t make it by them regarding your racism comment. If using a full name is racist, then I suppose we should all go back to to using Michael King, as opposed to Martin Luther King to avoid any confusion and racism.
Obama’s grandmother stated that she was present along with his half brother and half sister when he was born in a Keynan hospital. Are they liars? Ann Dunham registered Obama’s birth when she returned to Hawaii, which is why he can only produce a Certificate of Live Birth instead of a Birth Certificate.

We are witnessing the results of too much pot and acid forty years later. God help this country forty years from now when the rest of today’s recreational pharmaceuticals kick in!

Jimmy and Vindicator. There is no “pulling out the race card.“ The addition of Senator Obama’s middle name would not be included if his middle name were Thomas (a “good” English name). To add it ONLY because it is Arabic makes the comment racist. And the idea that he should go back to Kenya, a black African nation, would not be mentioned had he had a father from Ireland like Senator McCain (don’t see you suggesting that we send him back to Ireland, a white nation). Both statements reek of blatant racism.
And, frankly, my friends, there is no argument to win. The die has been cast, and tomorrow you will go to bed knowing that for the next 4 years we will be under the leadership of President Obama. Learn to deal with it since the executive and legislative branches will be Democratic. As Bob Dylan wrote over 40 years ago “The Times They Are A-Changin’” and the change is what this country needs to purge itself from the failed Bush administration.
And why would I want to move to the communist nations you mentioned; I would prefer a socialist nation like Sweden or Finland or France. Did you learn your government from Sarah Palin? There is a vast difference between socialism and communism. Read a little, my friend. Peace.
Jimmystick. Jackson-Pollock is about as clear as a pane of glass. It takes minimal intelligence to see right through people of this ilk. He has shown in a previous response where his feelings are when he stated that the US needs a little socialism. My ancestors were called traitors for defending the Constitution as written by the Founding Fathers. So you can understand why this joker wouldn’t make a pimple on a real American’s backside! I don’t need to find a “whiter” place to live, but he needs to move to a more socialist country to feel more at home. I have always noticed that “those people” always complain here, but never give a thought about moving to Russia or China or North Korea where they can live the good life with socialism. Wonder why!
Vindicater as you can see when a liberal cannot win an argument they pull out the race card. From comments this Mr.Pollock has made he is deeply into gay rights. Perhaps that is why he is a Democrat. He was ranting about homophobes on a letter to the editor. He is about as far left as they get so trying to make a point with him is like talking to an Iron Curtain. I will be voting tomorrow for the only good 5th district candidate. Virgil Goode. The R&B;has been spouting yellow journalism and they will be loosing some subscriptions from it. There is a big story about Perriello that they will not let out. I bet Mr. Pollock nows all about it.
