Wentworth parade a hit on chilly morning

Frosty temperatures didn’t seem to affect Rockingham County residents from enjoying the Wentworth Christmas parade Saturday morning. They were bundled in coats and blankets for a chance to catch some candy and see Santa Claus.

Joe and Nancee Adkins, from Rockingham County, said they enjoyed the Rockingham County Middle School cheerleaders and they had a great mascot.

“The cheerleaders did a great job and it was a good parade,” Joe Adkins said. “There was an abundance of candy, friendly people and everyone was in the Christmas spirit.”

Some of the floats in the parade included appearances from the Rockingham County Commissioners, N.C. Rep. Nelson Cole, the Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department, and members of Wentworth Baptist Church.

Peggy Moore, a Reidsville resident, said she came to see her grandson in Rockingham County High School’s JROTC presentation.

“I think the JROTC did a great job, and my grandson was wonderful in there,” Moore said. “A lot of people showed up this year even though it was freezing.”
The parade had over 60 entries and each one had a chance to win a cash prize for best float.
