The Wachovia Foundation has announced a cash gift of $100,000 to the Fulfilling the Promise campaign for construction of the McMichael Civic Center in Wentworth. This latest pledge of support brings the campaign total to just over $4.9 million, according to a news release.
“Investing in our communities is one of the most important things we can do as a company,” said Leslie Hayes, Mid-Carolina Regional President for Wachovia Bank, N.A. “We are excited to support this important project, which will create many cultural and economic opportunities for Rockingham County.”
The state-of-the-art facility will be built on the Rockingham Community College campus at N.C. 65 and County Home Road. The center will provide gallery and exhibition space for the arts and industry; flexible space for workshops, seminars, and meetings; affordable, quality office space for nonprofit organizations; and a performing arts center for cultural events to enrich community life, the release said.
The McMichael Civic Center will appeal to expanding and relocating businesses and industries by demonstrating the county’s commitment to the future of its residents and to the business/industrial community.
Robert Keys, president of RCC said, “This gift reflects the confidence Wachovia has in the civic center project and in the future of our county. It is yet another strong commitment from the business community in this vital project that will benefit all Rockingham County citizens.”
