Lifelong Reidsville resident Craig Travis has announced his candidacy for Rockingham County Commissioner, saying he wants to bring “sense and sensibility” back to Rockingham County government.
According to Travis, many issues with the county government stem from wasteful spending and problems with planning and budget management. He said this creates more problems for the taxpayer.
“I feel like the county commissioners today aren’t taking the citizen or the taxpayer into consideration when they make decisions,” Travis said. “I want to bring the government back to the people, because that’s who’s in charge – it’s their money that’s being spent. There needs to be more open government and more explanation. People need to know what’s going on.”
Travis said because of miscommunications between people and their government, people are getting upset with issues they don’t really understand. He said he wants to change that.
“I decided to run for office because I just got tired of all the nonsense that was going on,” Travis said. “It’s all about bringing truth, responsibility and common sense back to government.”
Attracting new businesses to the county, allowing business to operate more freely and bringing the government back to the people are the main points of Travis’s campaign. He also wants people to know that their voice counts when it comes to voting.
“A lot of people in the county have the mentality that their vote doesn’t count or what they do doesn’t matter,” Travis said. “I’m here to tell them it does count and it does matter. People need to get involved with their government. Commissioners are making decisions that affect citizens daily. And people don’t get that some of those decisions aren’t leading us down a good path. We need to change that.”
Children are also a big part of why Travis chose to run for office. He has two of his own and he said life should be better for them.
“I look at my two children and I ask myself what’s my county, state and federal government going to look like when they’re my age?” Travis said. “What kind of tax burden will they be responsible for? I want my kids to grow up like I did. I want them to have free speech and be able to have some money in the bank.”
Travis is a veteran of the Navy and has worked in operations management for AT&T over the past 10 years. He is also active with the Boy Scouts and attends Reidsville Christian Church.
He said he hopes to have more community support in his campaign. Donations can be sent to Craig Travis for Commissioner, 108 Pinnacle Circle, Reidsville 27320.

Hey Rockingham County, To start with i have known Craig Travis all my life and of course in his younger days, he was a hot head but he is no where near the discription of what cherry cobler describes. I think cherry cobler must hold some resentment toward Craig. As far as Craig, i will say he has always helped others and never ask for anything in return. Just talk to some of his close friends. He is passionate about the citizens of this county and the road that this government is heading. I believe with all my heart, Craig will do everything in his power to get the government train wreck back on track for the people of this county. He will give you a strong, passionate and commen sense voice that will stop the craziness in this county government. As i said before i have known him all my life from elementary school and he is the right person for this job and he is what is needed on the board.
I have known Craig Travis for a couple of years now and he strikes me as a dedicated family man who works hard everyday to provide for his family.
We need that type of commitment back in local government.
Indeed, Craig Travis has matured greatly as a father and a man and his Navy service only aided in that.
As a veteran and committed husband and father he will represent the best of Rockingham County.
I have known Craig for along time now and he has always been nothing but genuine and more than willing to help others. He is always, ALWAYS volunteering his time to help out with one organization or another. Never ever has he asked for anything in return. Now I ask you does that make him all about himself? I think Craig is the best candidate for the job and he can get the job done, he is not full of empty promises and he does care about this county and the people in it!!
Unless Craig Travis has grown up a lot over the last few years, I wouldn’t vote for him if he ran for trash collector. While I will refrain from saying really nasty things about him in this forum, I will say that I personally believe he doesn’t have what it whatsoever to be a representative of the people. The Craig I know is a loose cannon who is trying to run a slick campaign to get into office, but it won’t cover what people know of him, and that is he’s unsuitable to represent me and the rest of the people in this county. He’s all about himself. He always has been and always will be. Nothing that he’s saying in his so called campaign is new or outstanding. Craig there are people out here that know you well. Will everything that comes out of your mouth during this campaign be the same crap you’ve always spouted? If he’s the only person on the ballot, I will stay home. And if there are others I will gladly vote for them and campaign for them too.
