A fire early Thursday morning in Reidsville damaged the home of a woman and eight children, said the Rockingham County Fire Marshal’s office.
John Cruise, assistant county fire marshal, said Bethany, Wentworth and Monroeton Fire Departments responded to a call to 1825 Sandy Ridge Road just before midnight. Cruise said the fire was extinguished by 12.20 a.m., when he arrived at the scene.
Cruise estimated 25 percent of the doublewide trailer owned by Shaunna Mitchell was destroyed. Mitchell and eight children living in the trailer escaped the fire unhurt.
Investigators believe the fire is suspicious but have not determined if it was set intentionally, Cruise said.
Where the family is staying was not known Thursday, but Cruise said they were “safe.”
