BUTNER, N.C. -A nurse is recovering after she was severely beaten by a patient this week at a state mental hospital where regulators had said there was a problem with violence.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that 38-year-old nurse Lisa McClure was beaten about 2 a.m. Monday at John Umstead Hospital in Butner. The patient broke bones in her face and pulled out clumps of hair.
The newspaper reported that an investigative report said police were seeking a felony assault charge against the 33-year-old patient on the all-male ward, where the staff was all female.
The nurse’s husband, Bobby McClure, told the newspaper his wife had been concerned that she might be attacked and repeatedly expressed concerns about staffing on the night shift.

AAAAAH….methinks a major league civil lawsuit is comming down the road. The hospital had….and has a duty to protect its staff, especially in such a dangerous working situation. If I sat on this jury I would feel for a woman who had to work in this enviroment. North Carolina citizens probably think that the night staff would be male, I would especially be angered to learn that there males working on the dayshift.
