A Reidsville man reportedly shot by an off-duty state trooper the night of Dec. 22 has died. Patrick Martin Curry, 27, was pronounced dead at 8:35 a.m. Monday, according to Doug Allred, a spokesman for Moses Cone Hospital.

Shortly after 9 p.m. the night of the shooting, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at 151 Oak Level Court outside Reidsville. The rural neighborhood is in the Midway community southwest of Reidsville.

Someone arrived at the trooper’s home, a disturbance followed and the man was shot, the sheriff’s office reported. The man shot was later identified as Curry, who was hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting.

The trooper was later identified as G.S. Grissom, 46. According to reports from WFMY News 2, Grissom called 911 twice the night of Dec. 22 - once to report that someone with a gun was trespassing on his property and again to inform dispatch that he had just shot the trespasser, who, Grissom said, was assaulting him.

Grissom joined the N.C. Highway Patrol in October 1992. He is assigned to Troop D in Rockingham County. Grissom is on administrative duty, following standard procedure when a trooper is involved in a shooting. He has not been charged. The State Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the incident.

Neighbors were reluctant to talk about the shooting Monday. Curry’s family also declined comment Monday.

This is really a tragedy! People make decisions every day that impact their lives forever as well as the lives of others. It is my hope that this family will have the strength they need to get through this difficult time. As far as Trooper Grissom is concerned, he and his family will also need thoughts and prayers for he has diffucult times ahead of him as well. I personally know both individuals and I previously stated, this is truly a tragedy…...all the way around!!!

yes, marine wife, my point exactly.
by the picture being shown like that it gives the feel that the paper is sending a biased message to the readers about this mans guilt or innocence before a fair trial has been set up.
then again, i am sure the picture with that headline will sell more copies.

Why is it that when refering to the 27 yr old he is called a victim?  What is up with that?  The press gave too much information on the ones involved without having all of the details.  Is this a crucify the officer deal?  Too quick to throw it out there with names, photo (why do that at this stage?), and too little info and refering to the person shot as a victim.  If they were going to be nonbiased looks to me like they could have given info and left the word victim out of it.

My heart was broke when I read this young man passed away. I certainly will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers. So young, I only hope they find strength from up above to help them through their sorrow.

I wonder what the purpose is in showing the Trooper’s photo. I’m sure he didn’t wake up the day of the shooting and say to himself “Oh today, I think I will shoot someone.“ Don’t you think he is going through enough without plastering his picture for the world to see?

thoughts and prayers to the family of the victim.
  but i have a question.
why or how can the press show a photo and give detailed information about the trooper? most civilian information isn’t released as fast as this was.
is he running for office somewhere or something?
