Madison man arrested following standoff

MADISON – Rockingham County deputies arrested a man early Thursday following a standoff that lasted about one and a half hours.
According to a news release from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Gerry Bullins, 30, of 1181 Gold Hill Road got into a domestic argument with other members of his family at his residence. He became upset, and fired a .22 caliber rifle inside the house and family members left the residence to call for assistance.
When deputies arrived, Bullins began shooting indiscriminately toward the outside and often in the direction of the deputies. Bullins fired an estimated 30 shots, according to the release.
The immediate area was secured and neighbors were informed of the incident. Additional law enforcement officers were called to the scene.
The sheriff’s Special Response Team arrived on the scene and was able to take Bullins into custody. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation with criminal charges pending.
