Judge to hold hearing on student leader’s autopsy

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) — A judge is considering whether an autopsy report on slain UNC student body president Eve Carson should be made public.
A hearing is scheduled Wednesday before Orange County Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour. A hearing for 21-year-old defendant Demario Atwater also is expected.
The judge said last month he wanted more time to consider the news media request. Attorneys for The News & Observer of Raleigh have argued the report is a public record and should be open to review.
Atwater and 17-year-old Laurence Lovette have been charged with murder in Carson’s death. Her body was found in a residential street March 5 about a mile from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus.
