Eden stores cited for selling alcohol to underage customers
EDEN — The Eden Police Department cited 15 local stores for selling alcohol to underage customers after detectives conducted ABC compliance checks the evenings of June 10 and 11.
According to a news release, the police department has received a high number of complaints for the sale of alcohol to underage customers at Fast Lane Drive Thru on Stadium Drive and the Eden Corner on Main Street. Both stores sold alcohol to underage customers the night of the compliance checks, resulting in the clerks being charged, according to the release.
Police also said three other stores — Petty’s Mini Mart on Morgan Road, Goraya’s #2 on Aiken Road and Super Mart on Hamilton Street — were check-ed for the first time. One store, the Super Mart, was found not to be in compliance with ABC regulations, and the clerk was charged with the sale of alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
The other 12 stores that were found not to be in compliance with ABC regulations, according to the release, are Gill’s Corner on South Hamilton Street, Kathy’s Mini Mart on Washing-ton Street, H/K Mart Citgo on Washington Street, the Shell gas station on Van Buren Road, Great Stops on Van Buren Road, J-Mart on Virginia Avenue, the Shell gas station on Kings Highway, the One Stop Shop on Meadow Road, the Circle Mart on Boone Road, Food Land on Church Street, Williams BP on Hamilton Street and the J-Mart on Stadium Drive.
