July 6, 2007 — Mar Gre Motel owner Carolyn Evans reported a revolver she kept locked in a closet was stolen. The report’s narrative said Evans noticed the closet key went missing about a week before she discovered the gun missing and suspected an employee had taken it.

Feb. 26 — Patrol officers began talking to Rufus Elwood Moyer, 44, who gave police a bag with what appeared to be a crack pipe inside. Moyer asked them to throw it away for him and informed them drug trafficking was going on in room 142, police said. Moyer was later arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. The report states Moyer identified a man he said he was going to buy cocaine from. Officers approached the man, Kenneth James McMasters, to question him, but McMasters ran. Police said they had to use a Taser gun on McMasters to subdue him and reported finding $340 in cash and digital scales dusted with cocaine in his pocket. The report said McMasters pulled five bags of powder cocaine and two crack rocks out of his pocket while running. Police said they later found the drugs along the path McMasters took behind the Mar Gre.

April 12 — Shortly after midnight, police received a call from a woman who said her underage son returned from a party at the Mar Gre “highly intoxicated.” When officers investigated room 142, they reported finding four young males inside, but none where the room’s renter. The report said officers smelled alcohol and marijuana, and both substances were found inside the room.

April 29 — Just before midnight, police patrolling the Mar Gre Motel grounds on foot smelled marijuana in front of the rooms. The officers approached two men standing outside room 145 and the report noted officers said the marijuana smell was stronger. Police searched the room and found three marijuana cigarettes and a small bag of marijuana on the nightstand. Ten Xanax pills were found inside a camera bag inside the room, police said. They arrested Jeffrey Haley Newcomb, 38, of 163 Wiskersham Road in Ridgeway, Va., on possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

April 30 — Officers were investigating reports of drug sales at the Mar Gre Motel when they spoke to Tony Simpson in room 180. Simpson gave his permission for police to search the room, a police report indicates. Officers said they found a metal pipe with a blackened copper-cleaning pad stuffed inside. A trashcan contained a glass stem that was broken and burned. Police arrested Simpson on possession of drug paraphernalia.

May 10 — An Eden officer was investigating a report that motel guests were selling drugs door-to-door. Police stopped a 17-year-old male who was walking around the motel grounds. Upon searching him, the officer said the suspect was carrying three rocks that tested positive for cocaine.

May 12 — While patrolling the Mar Gre, officers arrested Harold Johnson, 34, of 114 W. Academy St., after they reportedly found him in possession of a gram of cocaine.

June 3 — At 12:45 a.m., police found two groups of men arguing loudly in the Mar Gre parking lot. When the officers identified themselves, one man got out of his car, putting both hands in his pockets, police said. When police told him to put both hands on his car where they could be seen, he ran. Police pursued the man, Jackie Sizemore, into an alley where he was seen throwing something to the ground, the report states. Sizemore was arrested, and the report said officers found two bags of white powder that later tested positive for cocaine. After searching Sizemore and his car, police found rolling papers, a razor blade, a plastic straw that had a white residue, two bags of marijuana, and four marijuana cigarettes, the report indicates.

June 8 — Police said a man walking home from visiting his sons was beaten by three men demanding money. Bruce Wayne Southard told the officer he was walking through a breezeway between buildings at the Mar Gre when one of the three men asked him for a dollar. When Southard said he had no cash, the three men assaulted him, according to the report.
