RICHMOND, Va. (AP) _ The State Board of Elections has certified challenger Tom Perriello as the winner over Republican Congressman Virgil Goode.
The board on Monday certified Perriello as the winner by 745 votes in the 5th District congressional race. Goode is entitled to a recount if he chooses.
Perriello’s apparent victory gives Democrats a 6-5 majority in Virginia’s congressional delegation.
The board also certified the rest of the election results, including victories by Democrats Barack Obama for president and Mark Warner for U.S. Senate.

I guess I’ll be tightening my belt a little more and hunkering down for the coming storm.
Tonights event at Libby Hill is FREE, but the special meal is $ 5.50 per person. So how can it be free? The restaurant going to be full of people not eating? Sounds like a cheap way to welcome in the new Congressman - Elect if that is what he is. I know if Virgil was the winner, people would not pay to come to his victory celebration.
Everyone remembers the day ELVIS died, well this is the day Southside will die, unless Virgil asks for a recount. Once Mr. Perriello goes to Washington if these votes whole up, we will see him again in 2 years when his term is up. He will not care about Southside once he goes to Washington. I hope you all are happy. Come on Virgil, ask for the recount. I would rather see my tax dollar go for a recount than some of the pork barrell spending it is going to now.
