A trust has been set up to help pay the medical bills of a 4-month-old Dry Fork baby with a rare form of cancer.
Nathan Moran has a rhabdomyosarcoma tumor around his spine, and has received chemotherapy at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital in an attempt to shrink the mass and prevent the cancer from spreading.
The child’s mother, Kristin Moran, said in an interview for a story published in the Register & Bee on Thursday that the baby needs further treatment, but the family has no insurance. Friends and family are setting up fundraisers and a trust fund to help pay medical expenses.
“This baby needs to be at Sloan (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City) now,” Jeanie Keen, a friend of family, said. “It’s heartbreaking.”
Keen said Sloan-Kettering has a doctor that specializes in the form of cancer Nathan has. She worked on getting a trust fund has been set up through her church, United Baptist Church, 3400 Old Highway 29, Danville, VA 24540, by sending checks made out to “Nathan Moran Trust.” Deposits can also be made directly to the Nathan Moran Trust at Virginia Bank & Trust branches.
Other fundraisers are also being set up, including a yard/bake sale beginning at 7 a.m. on Nov. 7 at Scarce Muffler Shop, 406 Piney Forest Road, Danville.

My wife and I started a group 6 years ago to help families in need. It is called the AVM and I would like to help you guys out with something for this beautiful little baby. We are both originally from Danville, and I went to GW High School back in 92. If you are interested in me and my friends working to help you and your family out, feel free to contact me through my e-mail here or you can register at http://www.aryanvolkofmidgard.com and verify for yourself that we are no scam. All my thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this beautiful child.
Jeanie Keen has said it all: “It’s heartbreaking.”
That the richest nation in the world would deny medical attention that is needed immediately because the family has no health insurance is not only “heartbreaking,“ it is barbaric.
Peace.
rocknwsc. I agree. Peace.
this is why we need health-care reform.
Perhaps would it be possible for the family to contact local businesses to set up collection containers for the family. Like a gate collection at Goodyear but I am not sure if it will be permitted.
The baby may be eligible for FAMIS which is for middle income families that happen to not have insurance
This is a very pretty baby. I am just wondering if the insurance in Virginia for kids w/o insurance will cover this baby.
What a beautiful little boy. I hope that everyone who is able to, will give whatever they can afford to help this little angel. Every little bit will help. God bless you, Nathan. And Grandma too.
