Thomas Road Baptist launching church in Danville

Pastor Jonathan Falwell speaks to a crowd of about 100 at Stratford Inn Conference Center about the new Thomas Road Baptist Church-planted Dan River Church, which will be having services at George Washington High School starting in October.
The Rev. Jonathan Falwell, pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, announced Wednesday that a new church campus is being “planted” in Danville next month — Dan River Church.
Falwell said the church’s mission is not to draw people away from other churches, but to reach the 70 percent of Southside residents Falwell claimed are not now attending a church.
“A large majority of those don’t know Christ as their personal Savior,” Falwell said. “We have a responsibility to reach people.”
Falwell said Thomas Road Baptist Church has launched churches around the world, and has plans to “plant” more church around the country over the next couple of years.
“We’ve got a responsibility that comes straight from the heart of God,” he said.
Falwell stressed the church is not coming to compete with established area churches, but rather to partner with them. He said he has already met with a number of local pastors, and has garnered some support for his mission to reach “people not in the community of believers.”
Falwell introduced the Rev. Scott Randlett, who will lead the new church, to the crowd of about 100 people who met at the Stratford Conference Center to hear about the new congregation.
Randlett said the first church service will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 in the auditorium at George Washington High School.
“God’s presence is going to be all over that place,” Randlett said.
A ministerial team has already been put together to handle the family, worship and outreach missions of Dan River Church, Randlett said, and students from Liberty University will also have an active part in worship services.
Randlett said the team will begin passing out information about the church in different communities on Sept. 26, and a block party is being planned for Oct. 3 to introduce the church to the community. Randlett said details about those events will follow.
For more information, contact Randlett at or by calling Thomas Road Baptist Church at (434) 832-2062.

But (The Word of God) - you’re wrong!
Flamsacr provided a post last evening that I responded to. I asked him to explain exactly what his point is in offering that scripture. In other words, and I shouldn’t have to spell this out for you but to make it easier on you, with respect to TRBC opening a branch here in Danville, what does the scripture offered by flamsracr have to do with that? That’s the issue. That’s the question. I mean, this is a free flowing blog. Anybody can quote scripture all they want and they don’t have to explain it. I was simply giving flamsracr an opportunity to explain why he chose to offer that particular scripture at this particular time, especially given that it appears to have nothing to do with the article we’re blogging about.
Now then, word of god, the post you offered this evening is somewhat confusing on two counts:
1. That scripture has absolutely nothing to do with the scripture quoted by flamsracr. Your scripture is from the Old Testament book of death and damnation. Flamsracr’s quote is from the New Testament of forgiveness and redemption. Indeed, you can’t use your scripture to support flamracr’s because yours was written long before that quoted by flamracr. Logically, if anything, it would be the other way around (i.e., flamscr’s scripture used to support yours). But that can’t be a logical argument either because flamsracr posted his scripture before you posted yours. How was he to know what you would be posting and thus know what scripture to use in order to support your scripture?
2. You wrote your scripture, and then you said “That’s the point”. That’s the point to what? I mean, you make no effort whatsoever to explain your scripture. You make no effort whatsoever to say how your scripture ties into flamsracr. And you make no effort whatsoever to explain how your scripture is in anyway relevant to this article. All you did, it appears, is you looked up at the ceiling, opened your Bible in your lap, closed your eyes, turned to a page at random, pointed to a verse at random, typed that verse into your computer and then said “That’s the point.“ The point to what?
Finally, just out of curiosity, why do you feel compelled to respond to a question directed specifically to another poster? Do you really believe you are that smart?
Psalm 119:160 The sum of God’s word is truth, and every one of God’s righteous rules endures forever.
That’s the point…..rockit

And your point is…..?
Matthew 19:16-26
The Rich Young Man
16 And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?“ 17And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.“ 18He said to him, “Which ones?“ And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, 19Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.“ 20The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?“ 21Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.“ 22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.“ 25When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?“ 26But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.“
As a child, I would visit the Baptist Tabernacle during times when Jerry Falwell was there preaching. As I got older and married, I would go visit Liberty University during Vespers services and special events. I have met Jerry Falwell many times personally. Although we didnt know each other by name, we knew each other when we saw each other. Jerry was a person like no other. The atmosphere at Liberty is such a blessing to be around. I welcome Thomas Road and Jonathan here to Danville. I believe they will be a help here. We need a church that is on fire for the young people to get excited about. I pray that God will bless them and us in return.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Lets see..
Another place to reinforce the 10 commandments and the new testament
faith..
I see no issue with that
If you don’t like them do not attend the service.
There is only one God. The muslims do not worship the same God we Christians do. Bush was a fool, a complete idiot when he said that. Too many people have been slaughtered in the name of religion. That is ridiculous, pure ignorance. Praise God for what he has given you, no matter how much or how little. You are blessed. Sure some are blessed more than others, but when we get to Heaven we can sit down and let God explain his reasonings to us. Until then, be glad for what you have, for each day you wake up, for every minute you breathe. We are blessed indeed. Once we shut God out of our Country for good, there will be no mercy upon us. I am afraid that day is growing closer as we speak. Lord give us the guidance to turn this country around. Amen.
I am not a math wiz. but I don’t think it was 100 people there. I was there. + He has at least 20 with him. I am not impressed that TRBC wants to start a new church in Danville. Don’t get me wrong. I am by no means knocking churchs. But Danville is known as the City of Churches. If 70% of Danville is not in church on Sunday there is a reason. Until recently I have not been in church because of what the pastor of my church did over 20 years ago. It was my choice to start going back. I have attended many churches. Some have nice crowds. One that I am familiar with that use to have a nice congregation has really fallen off. Why? I don’t have that answer. Maybe t he 70% that is not in church include the sick and shutin and they watch or listen to a service on tv or radio. Maybe the 70% have just had enough of religion being breathe down their necks they don’t want to go. So as far as I see. Maybe TRBC and the Danville Church i wish you luck cause you are going to need it if you plan to stay
ravencottage - I am stunned by your bigotry.
Rabbi Hillel once said, “Do not do to others what you would not want done to you.“ The Rabbi Jesus updated that for his 1st century audience, “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.“ Updated for today it could read “you get what you give.“
It is a shame that you have closed yourself off to such an experience. It is your loss.
Good day,
