Shorewood Packaging cuts 33 jobs in Danville

DANVILLE - Shorewood Packaging Corp. has cut 33 jobs due to low customer demand.

The positions were eliminated after about three months of rolling temporary layoffs, said Mike Fenton, the plant’s general manager.

“Our customer demand just hasn’t been there,“ Fenton said.

Fenton said Shorewood officials do not expect business to improve anytime soon. Shorewood produces packaging boxes and paper products.

“Our customers are at the mercy of the consumer-shopper,“ he said.

The plant had four printing presses running three shifts per day five days a week. Shorewood eliminated one printing press as part of the cuts, Fenton said.

Shorewood is offering severance and job-search assistance to its laid-off employees, he said. The cuts leave Shorewood with 138 employees.

Obamasama has been there almost a year, and the deficit has quadrupled.  Only an idiot thinks you can spend your way out of debt.  We have nothing to show for the money spent, except for owing China even more money.  He is taking his time, because he has no idea what to do.  People are tired of him passing the blame.  He should have known what he was getting into.

JP, I don’t know of any Dowdy who works there, nor of any Dowdy who is 5’1” tall.  Lay off the drugs man, once again you are fabricating things.  Everyone can tell it is you, and Jason Pollack you are making a fool of yourself.

The problem here is in the front office. Poor management! This is a multi million dollar business, and if IP can’t see where the problem is then maybe some of the people on the floor need to point it out to them. I am sure the ecomony has a little to do with it, but most of it is the front end managing. I hate to see anyone lost their job, but maybe it should have started at the top in this business and the little man would still be working.

They are having to cut jobs because the economy is getting worse.  Only Obamasama says it is getting better, and folks with common sense know he is in fantasyland anyway.  You can tell when he is lying, because his lips are moving.  ;(
