A new Salvation Army Family Store is opening in Danville Plaza Shopping Center on July 9, and the organization is looking for donations.

The group especially needs furniture and household items, according to a news release from Salvation Army Capt. G. Allen Tanner Jr.

“These items may be dropped off at our donation center, located in the rear of the building at 2905 Riverside Drive (the former Hancock Fabric building),” Tanner said. “A staff member will be present to help you with your donation.”

Tanner noted that the donations are tax deductible, and receipts are given at the time of the donation.

The store’s grand opening will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on July 9, and will be “a day of food, fun and great prizes,” Tanner said.

The Salvation Army is a Christian organization that provides a variety of social services in more than 5,000 communities nationwide. Those services include “providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children,” the news release stated.
