Rockingham man sentenced for saying he was going to assassinate president
A Rockingham County, N.C., man was sentenced Thursday in Superior Court for telling a 911 operator that he was going to assassinate the president, according to a news release from the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office.
Steve Lee Stone, 44, of Stoneville, received a suspended 45-day sentence and 18 months of supervised probation after pleading guilty to communicating threats, misuse of a 911 system and two counts of resisting a public officer, said Phil Berger, the district attorney for Rockingham County.
The communicating threats charge stemmed from things Stone said to sheriff’s deputies, while the misuse of a 911 system came from his conversation with the dispatcher, Berger added.
He said he wasn’t sure if there was any federal legislation that would apply to Stone since he threatened the president’s life.
“We prosecuted what was brought before us,” he said. “It appears as if Mr. Stone communicated a threat, and he plead guilty to it.”
A 911 dispatcher received a call from a cell phone on July 30 from an unknown caller who said he was going to assassinate the president of the United States, according to the release. The dispatcher traced the call to a trailer park on Bob Trail in Stoneville. A deputy went to the trailer park but couldn’t find the caller. Authorities also notified the Secret Service.
The same caller dialed 911 again about 24 hours later. Detective Steve Perkins and a Secret Service agent investigated the call and ended up at 103 Abernathy Drive in Stoneville to interview Stone.
Stone became “combative” and resisted arrest until a deputy used his Taser.

Now let’s be clear I’m black and proud not hiding nothing and I can get racial but do to a History of treatment’s which I didn’t condone and don’t hold on to regulary yet I at this time in life have some right with all these hateful comment’s about all of our President of the United States President Obama who happens to have color in him and I dreamed and hoped for the day to come but sayingthat I grew up around some of you down their and still call Danville my home so my posting get’s the best of me because some of the things people say even on cable or at those town hall’s make s me want to reach out and touch some folk’s and the thing about me is I won’t hide behind the screen and with a nick name like mines I’m easy to be found,so as a Proud American and a black one saying a lot of thing’s about President Obama sounds hurtful he even had the chance to screw up like the last folk’s who ran our Country so those remark’s lead me to beleive some are you are still more racist than you care to admit anyway growing up their I seen, Black’s and white work together,play together and our kids or relatives still do but to side with that or that Preacher the other day who say anything, I won’t you or who-ever to know for real that if I catch or am near you talking about harming or really going over board de-grading President Obama I will be the Secret service see you are not getting a pass you are getting can of whoop’‘’‘’ period, this Nation need’s everyone to think about their action’s or comment’s because this not the 1700 or 1968,now yes some of you are over extended following Hannity,Rush and that agitator Sarah Palin see when those slur’s were being slung at here rallys never once did her or Husband quiet them but my point is if you post keep your words about the President and his Family less bluntly for one day I hate to see you encounter somebody who feel’s about President Obama as much as me and to clear this up for some see when President Obama was jumping in the race I did not just jump because of his skin color, no I thought about those who sacrificed themselves before him not comparing him to JESUS but I said you know he died for me and you too but I got more personal and said at the time Obama must know what he is getting into, everything would be on the table and a civil war could break from these racial outburst but I trust in the Lord so much and said if he a Black man is willing to lay his life on the line knowing that I could not have been Peter or the people who were their with Kennedy or King or Lincoln for I knew their causes then I had to stand by him no matterwhat the price so when I post I’m serious those of you who don’t like him tough up shut and be a American not part of the racial past we are trying so hard to leave behind us, like it or not he is the Leader of or Nation right now not the Senator’s or House member’s and to you blinded Health Care opposer’s be real at least if you havea public option you will be covered even if you don’t have a job and if you find work and get sick you will already have it or if you get laid off and lose your insurance you and your family will be still covered or just keep your plan the price even might come down and to the smarties worrying about the money, you didn’t worry when President Clinton left that surplus, no just sat back and watch the whole Republican party just spend it at will our future that’s right how some say it our kids are helping us pay it now and even borrowed from China so just keep it clean for you never no who could be listening but still if that gut was that mad you’ll got plenty of woods togo off by yourself and yell anything you want.

The Repubs want this country to remain as it was intended, a Republic, with the structure that our founding fathers intended. The Demorats just want more big gov’t, into every decision that is made. And like I have said before, it is ignorant to believe you can spend your way out of debt. I hope there is enough common sense out there to see that as a fact. He didn’t want to kill anyone, he just wanted some attention. The way he went about it, calling the dispatcher, telling them all that while being recorded, it proves that. Anytime the economy goes sour, some desperate people do dumb things. There is a rumor of how nice the Federal prisons are. And lo and behold some idiot will throw a brick through a Post Office window and wait on the cops. He gets charged with a Federal Crime and gets a short sentence. Then he goes to Federal prison and finds out what a nightmare it is. Been there, it is a nightmare, worse than you would believe. This may be the same thing. He probably figured he would get some Federal attention, and it didn’t work. There are so many threats to Obamasama that the penalties are lower. The Feds quickly look and see if it is a serious threat or not. If not, then they leave it to the locals and State.
He got some attention, I just doubt it worked out quite like he expected. I hope he gets some mental counseling to see IF there are any mental issues that need to be addressed before he hurts someone or himself.
