Residents invited to public input forum on community violence
Calling all concerned residents, young people and community leaders: How can the community deal with violence in Danville?
“I believe we can make a difference,” said the Rev. Larry Campbell, also a city councilman. “We as a people need to come together. It is a community issue.”
Residents are invited to attend the community input forum at 6 p.m. Monday in the Danville Room of the Danville Public School Board Office at 341 Main St. Leaders from Big Brothers Big Sisters, YMCA, YWCA, Boys & Girls Club of the Danville Area, education leaders, city leaders and neighborhood watch leaders have all been invited to attend.
This is a brainstorming session about how to fix the violence problem long-term, Campbell said.

Reader Reactions
I have had the displeasure of reading and deciphering all this conversation about violence in Danville. People, do not be alarmed. We are living in the last dispensation as described in Matt 24:3-14.
I am appalled that the citizens of Danville have not figured out how Councilman (Rev) Larry Campbell conducts business. He will find a way to connect Bibleway Cathedral as a meeting site, resource facilitator, or catalyst to draw attention for “his” church. It is amazing how prominent elected officials are connected there. Alonzo Jones(DPS Board Member) is connected to the vine. If the Danville churches are indeed concerned about community violence, please open the doors for the children(not just on Sunday and Wednesday). I am not being cynical concerning Rev. Campbell or Rev. George Wilson however I have been monitoring these two for awhile.
jcs…you hit the nail on the head. The Danville Public Schools are perhaps the most bloated of all the city department. They waste more money that would put Jerry Gwaltney to shame! As to this being a quaterly meeting how come no one ever knew about it? Time to look into DPS…...
In this notice concerning the meeting nothing was mentioned about it being a quarterly dinner meeting hosted by the School Board and people were suppose to let the SB know if they were attending. At least that is what Rev. Wilson said at the beginning of the meeting.
How much money is spent each school year by the school board feeding board members breakfast and dinner? Can’t they eat before the meeting or bring a bag meal?
Let’s hope we will see real CHANGE, POSITIVE change.
I submit that no meaningful effort to reduce violence will ever take place in Danville.
A “meaningful” effort would be one that concentrates on the demographic that actually commits the majority of the violence. This same “meaningful” effort would not waste resources on those demographics that are not shown to commit significant violence.
Herein lies the problem. Miles Davis “and others of his ilk” will successfully shut down any such effort before it gets started by screaming “racism!“ at community leaders who are terrified of being painted as such.
While being an admirable goal, stopping violence in Danville is a pipe dream.
Of course, I’d love to be proven wrong on this one. This is one case where being right is no fun.
If you notice I only stick to just the TRUTH and the FACTS, this leaves EVERYONE only one option:
Admit to the FACT/TRUTH, or show everyone who the real bigots/racists are! I have had all I am going to take for the rest of my life, I will never be scared,or embarressed, or intimidated into not stating the obvious and continually calling peoples attention to it!
Miles Davis said: “All one has to do is read the collective posts of guys like banshee, the Other Guy, Rockit and others of the same ilk. You will quickly understand why this community is still living in the 18th century.“
Wow! I never realized that in the 18th century, people drew the ire of their fellow citizens by simply citing verifiable government statistics. You learn something new every day! Thanks for the history lesson, Professor Davis!
I’ll ask you again, Professor Davis: what is it about TheOtherGuy’s posts that made your thong bunch up? Do you dispute the accuracy of his statistics, or do you object to him forwarding them to the rest of us?
I keep asking, and all I get in return is empty rhetoric.
Oh, and I’m disappointed to be omitted from your list, by the way. We “others of the same ilk” take a dim view of that!
Yep, Miles is one of the biggest bigots on here. I’m not living in the 18th century Miles and neither are you so get over yourself and this idea that you have that you are owed something simply because of the color of your skin. People are tired of this double standard when it comes to race and I imagine they are tired of walking around on egg shells - afraid to speak their mind for fear of being called a racist by some simple-minded pompous jerk like you.
Miles you are such a bigot, read your own posts.
When you are done read everyone I have ever posted and you will never find one instance of me denigrating anyone of any race until their OWN STATEMENTS PROVE THEM TO BE WHAT I CALL THEM!!
You Miles Davis are a bigot, and it you who are living in the past, I don’t care what happened years ago, I care about whats happening in our streets RIGHT NOW TODAY!!!!! The KILLING and the ROBBING and the SHOOTINGS and DRUG DEALING!!
If it offends you TOO BAD!! People need to hear the FACTS and TRUTH and quit HIDING from it!!! Only then will the “PROBLEM” be solved!!!
Oops almost forgot…....
big·ot (bgt)
n.
One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
All one has to do is read the collective posts of guys like banshee, the Other Guy, Rockit and others of the same ilk. You will quickly understand why this community is still living in the 18th century.
Some people just don’t like hearing the TRUTH when it paints them in a bad light. Way to go Other Guy for not giving a rat’s @$$ about what other people think. I’m so sick of all this politically correct crap!
