Lynyrd Skynyrd set to play at Carrington Pavilion
The promoters bringing Hootie & the Blowfish and Willie Nelson to Danville have lined up Lynyrd Skynyrd for a September gig.
The Southern rock legends will perform Sept. 11 at the Carrington Pavilion, according to Les Adkins, spokesman for the promoter. Tickets go on sale Aug. 1 and can be bought at http://www.etix.com or at (800) 514-3849.
“Lynyrd Skynyrd will be doing three shows across Virginia and North Carolina in a three-day period starting in Danville,” Adkins said.
The band heads to Asheville, N.C., on Sept. 12 and Elizabeth City, N.C., on Sept. 13.
The concerts are a joint venture between Edenton, N.C.-based Radio Media Productions and SRO Productions of Roanoke.
Adkins said Lynyrd Skynyrd became prominent in the Southern U.S. in 1973, and rose to worldwide recognition before several members were killed in a plane crash in 1977.
The band regrouped in 1987 for a reunion tour and continues to record music today.
Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
The band performed in Danville in early November 2003 at the Carrington Pavilion. More than 5,000 tickets were sold for that concert.
Adkins encourages people to purchase tickets from the approved online site for concert tickets, which is http://www.etix.com.
Some Web sites are selling these tickets higher than face value, he said.
