Jon Stewart pokes fun at Virgil Goode

U.S. Rep. Virgil Goode, R-5th, isn’t laughing at “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” segment that pokes fun at the Rocky Mount Republican.
Goode was featured in a clip on Tuesday night’s episode of the show reportedly riding in a gas-guzzling silver Hummer plastered with his campaign signs and those of other GOP candidates.
The segment was filmed during the Scottsville Fourth of July parade. On the show, Goode was portrayed as friendly to big oil companies and unaffected by high gas prices.
“First of all, I never watch ‘The Jon Stewart Show,’” Goode said Thursday from his Washington, D.C., office. “I didn’t ride in the Hummer. I don’t even know who owned the Hummer.”
The show also compared rap musicians with Republicans because they both like guns and money.
“I don’t know what a rapper is,” Goode said.
Goode pointed a finger at his Democratic opponent Tom Perriello for filming the parade and making it appear like he was hiding in the huge sports utility vehicle. He said Perriello and Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama are the candidates of celebrities, and that’s why they went after him.
Jessica Barba, Perriello spokesperson, said Goode was walking in the parade and not riding in the Hummer. She said the campaign has nothing to do with the video and never had any contact with Jon Stewart.
“It was a humorous video made by someone not affiliated with our campaign,” Barba said.
Goode said the parade’s path was about one-and-a-half miles long and mostly heads downhill until it ends in the downtown section. He said there’s no way he could hand out fans and pencils if he was buckled inside the Hummer.

DJC4. Jon Stewart doesn’t want to make it in straight journalism; he is a comedian, just like the faux newscasters on Fox News.
Also, I read a few months ago in the Register that Goode drives a Honda - now that’s a good, all-American car. The Hummer did, however, have Goode signs plastered all over it as a shrine to the House of Representative’s “Barney Fife.“ Surely Southside can do better than Goode. Shalom.
Jon has to bring out his copy of the Manefesto anytime he is talking about a Conservative. He is no ways as funny as Carlos Mencia. He could not make in strait journalism but excels in Socialism. Which is amazing when you think of ABC NBC AND CBS.
This is OLD news. The Hummer actually belonged to a private business owner who started from humble beginnings and worked his way to success. That Hummer symbolized the American Dream to that individual. Virgil did not ride in the Hummer, and nor did he own it. The video was plastered all over “You Tube” way before Leftist Jon Stewart aired the clip on his show. How do I know this? I am a resident of Scottsville. Mr. Goode needs to lighten up. First of all, does he not recognize that the Daily Show is on the Comedy Channel? Jon Stewart uses satire on his show; it is not meant to be news, unlike Fox News, which is supposed to be news but is part of the executive branch and says only glorious things about our esteemed representative.
And claiming to not know what a rapper is? Has he been too long in Franklin county and completely out of touch with any form of popular culture (rap has been around for several decades)? He is either lying or not too bright or both; I think that both apply to this representative.
We need someone better than him to represent us. He is a joke of our district (this was not the first time he has made the Daily show -last time was when he was opposed to the Mexican flag being waved over a Mexican restaurant). He needs to, truly, lighten up.
While Goode may not watch the Daily Show, he is obviously lieing when he says he doesn’t know what a rapper is.
It’s satire, y’all. It is not supposed to be taken as gospel!
Doesn’t even know what a “rapper” is! Come on Virgil, even you should have to know. He has no sense of humor does he? This race is being look at nationally and he needs to lighten up.
I hope Virgil does not think he will get fair treatment by some left-wing, Democrat show business type on the Comedy Channel. It is also quite unbelievable that Stewart’s TV crew just happened to be in Scottsville, Virginia on July 4th. Of all the places in the country to be, on a holiday, his video crew just happened to be in a tiny town in the middle of Virginia?
